I haven't read the books in years, so I feel like I'll basically be a non-book reader when it comes to this. Haven't watched yet but I'm going to as soon as possible.
I thought this was fantastic. I was a little worried about the cast in this because, despite liking them all a lot as actors, I really feel like the cast in the very bad movie from 2002 was phenomenal and a lot of them were absolutely perfect for the roles. Eva Green, Daniel Craig, Sam Elliot. So far everyone has been great.
Enjoyed the first ep. Felt like I was still getting a grasp on this world and the college when the story looks like it's going to a new place already, but that's ok. I know it's BBC, but it feels weird watching a show on HBO that isn't TV-MA.
Went in knowing absolutely nothing about this property at all and really enjoyed the pilot, it feels almost whimsical in a way that I feel like shows aren't anymore, especially on HBO, even though it definitely had dark themes. Will keep watching for sure
2007. I just checked Wikipedia. I really thought it was a little older than that. I thought the cast was phenomenal in that version and it was a shame they were mostly squandered.
What a thrilling pilot. This series is so, so important to me and I was legitimately overwhelmed by how much I loved the start of this adaptation.
Finally got around to watching this. So, so great. Beautifully shot as well. Dafne Keen is a star. This is the real deal right here.
Just a heads up the after episode preview kind of spoils next week for those who don’t want to know who grabbed Lyra at the end of the episode
So far, my only minor, minor complaint is that I don’t think they’re putting enough emphasis on how crucial and necessary a daemon is. There are so many scenes where I’m looking around for Pan and wondering why he isn’t giving his opinion. I don’t think they’re establishing enough that they’re an autonomous soul creature. It also makes it less shocking and upsetting when they find Billy without Ratter. Overall though, my opinion of the show is incredibly high and I think Dafne is such a star.
