I like the Wizkid one as a “single” too, but it’s no Location. Overall I think he struck the balance way better on Psychodrama.

I’m definitely more into the second half of this Tyler album. Maybe it helps that I’m not really focusing anymore.

Both this one and the Dave album are too long though man, what's going on

  5. Just finished listening to this, liked that interview a lot. Interesting to hear Skyzoo approached Von to let him know he was making an album similar to City For Sale, haha

Really enjoyed the album roundup at the top of the show too, they pretty much nailed my thoughts on the Nas and Pink Siifu records. Really wanna go back and listen to their Pink Siifu interview, sounds like they got a lot of great insight from him. Is this a podcast you listen to often?

Yeah, I do. It’s a good listen. Most episodes are basically like this one.

I knew some of those guys from work they did before the podcast (David Ma for example is a good writer) and like the Pasion Of The Weiss cinematic universe. They’re all cool guys and they really know Hip Hop, even if I don’t always agree.

It’s been a thing since what feels like the late 90s, but it has definitely become more normalized

I started going to hip hop shows in 2011 and they’ve all been like that since then with very few exceptions lol. Kind of stopped bothering seeing rappers a few years ago because of it.

This is going to make people call me an old head again, but if you go and see legends or prominent underground rappers, you're likely to get a good show even if you're not a fan. Like, I saw EPMD once and I even though I do not care about EPMD at all, I was blown away.

  21. What's the general consensus on Suicideboys? Are they corny, worth exploring, problematic, etc.? Really know nothing about them other than that Turnstile tour lol

they’re pretty cool stylistically but it all sounds the same and gets really old really fast. kinda like Bones. mountains of material but if you’ve heard a little bit of it you’ve heard it all. but I enjoy the style

Yeah, a lot of people on stage in rap has been a thing for ever since I can remember. And honestly, it's always been a huge turn-off for me to go to rap shows. It was huge back in the 90s and early 000s when everyone had their big record labels (No Limit, Cash Money, Rock-A-Fella, Murder Inc, etc).

I agree with Lupe that the show is much better/more powerful with the rapper and at most one hype man, ideally the DJ.

    Also, Lupe rules live!

EDIT: OOOPS, I thought were were talking about this tweet:

  24. I tried suicideboys years ago and really couldn’t have hated it more. Super not my thing
