So, after talking about trap on here yesterday, I thought I’d finally give Young Thugs recent album a listen. It’s a lot better than I thought it was gonna be. He sounds focused. Despite it being 19 tracks, it doesn’t drag too much. I’m really digging it.

I know y’all already know all this, I’m just catching up haha

I should give it another go. Went through it earlier and nothing stuck with me. That song he did with Mustard that’s blowing up is catchy though.

There’s a couple songs I’m not that into but for the most part it’s pretty consistent. Were you into his last project? I’d say that was better but he’s going outside of his comfort zone a bit more on here. The back half in particular has some of the best songs though and I think the song with Mustard is a highlight for me too.

I will say a lot of the melodies didn’t do a whole lot for me on the first listen but they’re growing on me.

I’m listening to the new Wiki. So far I like the production a lot less than I liked the production of No Mountains in Manhattan. This bums me out a little because I adored NMiM.

EDIT: I really like about four songs on this.

I feel like it's the late 00s because it looks like Statik Selektah will be on my list three times. This new EP with Paul Wall is fucking excellent.

There's a good 10 other albums that I haven't listened to enough to list. Been listening to too much jazz this year to listen to everything haha

Listening to Gang Starr right now. I’ve been playing catch-up to make my list and I think this might have been a good year after all, just not for mainstream hip hop.

I decided to make a separate list for EPs...

    1. Earl Sweatshirt - Feet of Clay
    2. Action Bronson - Lamb Over Rice
    3. Benny The Butcher - The Plugs I Met

I'm sure there are more, but can't remember them

There’s plenty of 22 minute albums now and these EPs are that long, so try to stop me.

This release has been criminally overlooked.

    hey you lil piss baby

Earl is definitely on my album list, especially since he didn’t specify it as an EP and it isn’t listed as such on streaming (at least on Apple).

I generally keep EPs separate unless I really liked something (like boygenius was number 2 on my album list last year) or if I haven’t heard enough EPs I like enough to bother with a proper list.

Most of these EPs are under “album” on Spotify. The distinction has become meaningless. I can see the argument against a 3 song EP but that’s it.
