I mean, aside from the fact that we could go into a theoretical discussion about Hip Hop ≠ Rap, there are songs on there where she is definitely rapping. I probably would personally call it an R&B album though.

Most post-New Jack Swing R&B albums are very much Hip Hop.

 

To be fair, I only actually listened to it once and decided it wasn't really for me, was just about to edit that into my post actually. I could easily be forgetting some songs

This just came up in my Discover Weekly. I have no idea who this is, but it has a nice throwback Jay Z vibe.

 

Another cool 2019 album was the Birdman & Juvenile album

 

Man French Montana really went and tacked on 3+ year old songs on the end of his new album

 

Got to get that #1 album

 

I did not know this came out, but it’s really fucking good

 

I feel like 90% of that album are songs we've heard already. I like him but I honestly have no desire to listen to it in full.

Sorry Jay, this is the most important streaming announcement of the week. I'll Sleep When Your Dead is one of my favourite albums of all time and Fantastic Damage is not far behind. This is fantastic news.

 

I'm not really a big Fudgemunk fan, so i'll probably give the Oh No one a listen first. Will report back!

is it just me or does it seem EOTY lists were FULL of mixtapes a few years back and this year I can't think of a single notable mixtape

 

I think a lot of this has to do with the continued blurred lines between what is a mixtape and what’s an album

 

I agree, but the lines seems less blurry now than a few years back. I can't really think of many releases this year that were free or weren't released by a major label.

 

“Project” is what I just use now lol

 

She's so good. I thought Nasty was a solid project, but the string of singles and features (especially that Take a Daytrip track) this year and the Kenny Beats tape really put her on another level.
