He's said some anti-Semetic stuff on Twitter and not just in the "Jewish money stereotype" way. It's very disappointing.

I did not even know that. I was tired of his tweeting roughly one week after it started. It really shattered this image of him I had created in my mind growing up listening to his music. Again, maybe that’s unfair, but it is what it is, and based on what you’re telling me it isn’t all that unfair apparently.

I've been super critical of 21 for a while now but holy shit, "i am > i was" is great. He's grown so much between projects that he's almost a different rapper to me.

Shame it’s got a shout out to the rainbow haired paedofile by J Cole on it as the rest of it is solid.

yeah that’s the only reason I tend to not go all out it’s a top tier song.

I don’t know how to describe it but I love the sound being used on that and the drake track nonstop.

That’s a period of time I’m not all that keen on. When a load of rappers got rnb singers to sing a hook over weak beat to get a bit of chart success. Sure, it’s always been done, but there’s something about the early noughties that seemed way to commercialised and you could tell labels were rushing to put out the next chart hit. Again, I know that just what labels do, but to me, hip hop suffered during that time.

I think that’s why I really got into a lot more underground and indie hip hop. I wanted to get away from fucking Ja Rule and Ashanti and listen to something different. I wanted substance and a lot of the stuff I was hearing was drifting far too close to rnb for my liking. Sure, there was still harder stuff, but it seemed like finding new music was a lot harder back then. I think I heard of Aesop Rock through a website called MP3.com! Is that even still a thing?

    Anyway. I’ll shut up now.

Ja Rule and Ashanti were so good. I was very much into both mainstream and underground rap back then. I was also a huge R&B fan though. Now it goes back and forth depending on the year for me. This year I was more into “underground” rap and have gotten more into R&B again compared to some previous years as a kind of replacement for mainstream rap which hasn’t really delivered full albums this year that grab me. Then again it’s getting harder and harder to classify.

I actually just came in to say how disappointing the new Dej EP is. I really feel like she had high potential to stand out and do something different, but the EP seems like she's just blending in and not really doing anything unique to stand out.

To be fair, I haven't really listened to much of her older stuff other then the song, Blood. I'll agree that she isn't doing anything all that different than the rest of the crowd, but I feel like she does it well. And I liked every song on the EP so...

I'm also feeling this new Method Man album. But he's always been my favorite Wu member so I'm a little biased.

Edit: I was a little premature with that post. The Meth album is good, but it's so loaded with features that he's not on it all that much.

    hey you lil piss baby

Dej was a huge favorite of mine back in 2014/15. She had some amazing collaborations and I was really digging into her solo work at the time. I feel like she’s definitely fallen off in a big way. Tracks like Blood, My Beyoncé, WYDTM (remix), Tied Up, Try Me, Shawty, and Me U & Hennessy were revelatory for me and soundtracked a big part of my life.

I’ve been recently trying to get more into Three 6 Mafia and I decided to listen to an essentials playlist(who got that rec on what to listen to.)

It’s crazy how many of their songs are used in today’s music. I know they have influence but I didn’t think that much.
