As far as newer recs goes, I'll ask my brother and get back to you, he's way more in touch with the genre than me, like I'll send him US/UK stuff and he'll send me back a French one that he just discovered. I tend to mistake French hip hop with neighbors Luxembourg and Belgian artists as well so I'll be careful haha.

We saw a few promising rappers this year:

Kikesa last month. Mostly trap-ish beats with common "French variété" singing parts, then he also has some songs that remind me of Vince Staples and Azealia Banks due to 90's dance and house influences, others that are more synthpop-y. He's got a new mixtape that I haven't heard yet.

Swing is one of my faves right now. He's from Belgium.

He's part of the band L'Or Du Commun who put out one of the most energetic shows I've ever seen!

The latter (nvm had to delete a few videos due to the limit) features Roméo Elvis who has been blowing up recently. His sister Angèle put out a French (edit: Belgian! goddamnit) pop AOTY contender as well.

I haven't heard a full album from him yet, but Doums is also great.

Lomepal is another one I'm getting into as of late, as I saw him promote his new release on TV last week.

Finally listening to Acrylic by Leikeli47. Some of this shit bangs, surprised there's not more talk of her on here.

 

New Princess Nokia album dropped, was not expecting it at all. It's also cool as hell and VERY different from anything she's done before. She dips into these DnB-influenced futuristic beats and sounds like MIA and Bjork at times, while other songs are straight R&B. It's
