Both LaD and AEOM have filler, but that’s fine, but are masterpieces regardless

I personally loved Biggie Duets, they really delivered on the “what if Biggie would make a 00s mainstream rap album” concept, which really wouldn’t have been an unnatural thing for him to do had he lived (see Fat Joe’s trajectory e.g.)

I'll check out the unofficial / posthumous shit after listening to the actual albums, feel weird doing otherwise.

I wouldn't really consider either to be "album" artists, outside of Ready to Die. Ton of filler on the rest.

Yeah especially because they’re not unreleased songs but doctored songs, so you you should hear the verses in the real songs first haha

I really don’t consider rap an album genre, at least not mainstream rap. It has many classic albums for sure, but even those often have filler. It’s really part of the game to me, haha. Illmatic is flawless though.

OutKast put out some great Album-type albums.

I only listen to rap in album form, rarely listen to singles on their own. If an album has one good song on it and a tonne of rubbish, I won’t go back to it as I need the long form experience. It’s the reason I don’t listen to singles acts release before an album too as I want to hear them for the first time as part of an album.

I agree that rap is more of a singles genre but I'm old and believe in the album experience and rarely listen to playlists or to singles before an album comes out (regardless of genre)

Personally, I find that 90% of rap albums these days are extremely long and over-bloated

Mainstream rap, yeah. But even within the most popular mainstream, there are still rappers putting out cohesive albums like Kendrick

a couple others off the top of my head. ASAP Rocky, Lupe, Schoolboy, Isaiah, Denzel, Earl, Vince, Tyler, Doechii, Smino, Simz...

overlong bloated albums is def a rampant issue within the genre but you don't have to look too hard to find artists who don't do that.

  20. Tyler is 100% an album artist, and that's why he belongs in the current top three. He puts just as much effort into his album's aesthetics and visuals as he does the music and it's really refreshing.

I finally decided to check out The Pharcyde first two albums on a long drive and I feel like listening to them like that was a crime.

I enjoyed them but I for sure gotta listen with my headphones to hear all the little details in the music.
