Yeah this Jack Harlow is one of the blandest, most boring hip hop albums I've heard in quite some time. There are plenty of new rappers that blow up and make me think "I don't get this at all..." but they usually at least have some interesting gimmick or big personality even if I think their music sucks. Jack is just straight up flavorless yogurt

It’s funny because the only reason people gave him a chance is because of his charisma and personality outside of his music

sure I'll see a video on Youtube before year's end entitled "The Rise & Fall of Jack Harlow"

Yeah I see so much good will towards him on social media, weirdly seen a lot of “I hope Jack goes the Mac Miller route and gets creative” tweets. It’s like people know deep down the music is bland but are rooting for him to get better. Outside of them both being white rappers there’s literally no comparison; by his early 20s Mac was experimenting and growing as an artist. Jack has done nothing but sound like something that a faulty Drake algorithm created in a lab.

Glad he seems like a nice kid though…

Mac was incredibly bland when he was coming up to be fair

Oh for sure but the potential was still there pretty early, I mean Watching Movies came out when he was like 21 and that album was way more interesting than anything Jack’s done. I know Jack’s only 24 but I don’t see him pursuing anything risky or unique any time soon.

I think people are underestimating how much people like bland yogurt. Most music listeners are bland yogurt.

You can have a long career releasing a bland album every year. I don't see him having a Chance level backlash but the hype might die down until he has another single that hits.

yeah he raps good enough and can sing his own choruses and isn’t horrible looking and white. He is being set up to be bigger than drake I think.

I’ve been listening to the Beastie Boys Book and because of that I have been listening to a lot of Beastie Boys. The last few years I somehow thought that Licensed to Ill did not age well, but I listened to it again and there’s actually a lot of cool stuff on there. It’s just that some of the biggest songs didn’t age well.

Beastie Boys are one of my biggest blind spots. I obviously know all of their big songs but I've never heard a full album

The jack Harlow album is a really good time if you ask me (no one did and no one ever will). But for real his trajectory to this point is very similar to Mac’s. This new one from Harlow is real similar to watching movies with the sound off to me. Phenomenal production, varied styles but a cohesive vision to hold it together, guest appearances and production credits carrying the record but he’s not dragging it down at all and some tunes are even elevated by his goofy white guy charm (sorry, that shit works on me seeing as I’m a goofy white guy, I see why people can’t get behind it). Hoping he does what mac did after ‘movies’ and fully embraces his style and becomes an all around capital A Artist that everyone takes seriously regardless of skin color or his past work, which will require him to work real hard the way Mac did to find his voice and style and hone in on it.

anyway, real fun album, 7.25/10 if I still did reviews for my boy Jason that’s where it’d land

At the end of the day, you don’t really ever get to win with your second album. You can just not lose.

Agreed. Always good to see them go from tongue in cheek punks trying their hand at rap to rap veterans trying their hand at whatever they want.
