its going to be a top 10 album of the year and yet he will still be underrated

  5. I zone out pretty much every time I put it on :/ there are a few tracks I really dig but on the whole it’s by far the least excited I’ve been about him

Same I love all his albums but this one feels a little phoned in. Want to let it grow on me so I’ll keep listening but p much all his other stuff was more immediate for me (even while being growers)

I don’t know. I can’t describe it well but I feel like it’s super focused like he knew exactly what he wanted to make with this album.

he’s perfected that sound he wanted to go for. I thought it was going to be a grower like the last one but it only took a few times and I was hooked. Magic, Lemonade, When Sparks Fly and Papercuts are all instant top tier songs for me.

In other news I read pitchfork reviewed the new fivio foreign album and they basically said it was a worse version of what pop smoke did with shoot for the stars with re-imagining 2000’s r&b

i decided to listen to some of the songs and yeah they were just meh

Yeah like obv it hasn’t been out long so I’m not over here trying to write it off or something. I do think it’s probably his strongest record lyrically, and there are for sure a few highlights. But so many of the beats just feel so.... bland? unmemorable? Which also winds up accentuating for me the issues a lot of people had with his vocal delivery on s/t. Idk yeah hoping I throw it on late afternoon one day this summer and it suddenly hits different but right now it feels like he tried to make a complete puzzle out of a bunch of pieces from other ones just because they technically fit but the actual image is indistinguishable

  12. I like the Vince album but I just think the self-titled is so much more concise (and even a little.more diverse production-wise) with that low-key sound. I don't think there's a bad track on it, but it also lulls for me in spots

Strange, my biggest issue with self title is the lack of diversity production-wise, so much of it just blends together to me

I love the beats on the s/t (way more than the new one). S/t definitely blends together but that’s the point I think. It reminds me of the shorter projects by Earl and Tierra Whack. It’s one complete serving.

There’s three songs on Ramona Park that I could do without, other than that the album flies by and is incredibly cohesive to my ears

I think it’s a good album. Pop Smoke also did not invent that, European drill artists have been doing that for years too. But Pitchfork is gonna Pitchfork.

I think what some of you dislike about the Vince album is what I like about it. It lowers my heart rate.

I’ll have to peep it soon. I’ve never really been a fan of Larry June I just can’t figure it out why.

idk why but I’ve basically just been listening to exclusively Westside Gunn and MF Doom yesterday and today.

On the subject of Vince. Just revisited Big Fish Theory. It’s really fucking good, probably more interesting than Ramona Park. But his rapping on RP is so much more dialed in and focused throughout. Some of the production choices and samples on BFT are absolutely top notch though and I do wish he would venture into that territory again. But I’m loving the Vince we’ve been getting too. And the new project feels like Vince has grown and matured a lot since that tape.

also god damn it I forgot how hard 745 was

BFT is his best I think, but the new record is definitely his best one since then. The lush production suits him very well, and I agree he sounds more dialed in rather than feeling flat.
