There are some I didn’t get to yet but maybe I’m just not going to listen to them until after the deadline :crylaugh:

Listening to Mach-Hommy rn...gotta sort out my top 10, but I have a feeling this one will be top 5. This is so good.

This might be a dumb question, but…
If you have two albums by the same artist on your end of year list, do you just put one of them to make room for other artists, or do you put both?

From NoName’s instagram story. Such a bummer. I don’t know her situation but I can’t imagine it’s that difficult to find creative producers willing to work with her. It’s not like there’s a shortage of experimental hip-hop artists these days. I wonder what’s actually going on that’s stopping progress.

Personally, it's two albums so it gets two spots

  10. Yeah that’s a bummer about Noname. It does feel like she’s always has one foot out the door — there have been multiple occasions where she has said outright that she wanted to quit. But I did think we’d at least get a random single every now and then. Sucks to hear that night not be the case

Seriously though. She’s threatened to quit numerous times. She’s an unbelievable lyricist and truly underrated artist, makes little sense to me why producers aren’t lining up to give her what she needs—and if they are, then what’s the creative-block on her end? Pretty unclear.

For me, it depends on the quality of each. If there’s not much separating the albums, I’ll put them together on one entry. Probably won’t do it for our aggregate list though.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

I've been really hoping Noname would come out with something new, especially after "Rainforest" dropped. if she doesn't feel comfortable doing stuff that's absolutely her perogative, but it's huge bummer that such a unique voice can't make it out there with all the shit that does. really hope she finds a producer and a groove sometime in the future

Also, if his other two under this current name are anything to go by, that most recent R.A.P. Ferreira album may end up sneaking up my final overall AOTY list in the coming weeks. Maybe the recent Mach-Hommy too, but as it's just 8 proper tracks long, it feels more like an addendum to Pray for Haiti than a full album.

  18. Yeah, I normally don’t lend very much attention to super late in the year releases in regards to my AOTY lists, especially surprise ones, but The Light Emitting Diamond Cutter Scriptures is really fucking that system up

  19. Will definitely be looking for recommendations, because the hip-hop albums on my list are currently all men and relatively biggish names. Vince, Navy Blue, slowthai, Brockhampton, Zack Fox, Tyler, Armand Hammer, Boldy James, MIKE, and Czarface/MF DOOM.

To me, the new R.A.P. Ferreira is better than his earlier release this year.
