Oh don't get me wrong I think Royce is an elite-level rapper too, he just got demolished here. I'm sure this isn't over and Royce will come back with a better track than the first (although honestly I don't see Royce, or anyone for that matter, beating Lupe in a battle like this). Shit like this is just great for hip-hop, I love when two high level artists go back and forth like this with no violence involved

And I was reading some of the backstory of what's going on and it seems like it started off as friendly jabs but Royce took some of Lupe's too personally and got mad and called him a bitch which really set it off. That's what I saw on Reddit anyway. Some of Lupe's lines in here seem too harsh to be friendly, like the Biz one

Think this might be my favorite non-Aaliyah Timbaland beat ever. Also revisited this whole album today and forgot how much I love the Game.

 

I was just thinking about this song the other day because I remember common’s verse being insanely good

also the documentary is a classic for sure

 

I loved him, it’s crazy how hard he fell off over time

 

Definitely not at the highs he once was. I feel like the new gen doesn’t connect with that style of rap as much now. But he’s still got some tracks here and there that are excellent. I personally also love The Documentary 2/2.5

(that Skrillex collab goes hard and gets me in a hyped mood)

I am particularly enjoying @CobraKidJon pushing other rappers to those in the latest Kanye (abomination of an) album thread. Doing gods work

 

I go in there for one second and immediately step into digital dog shit:

Like what have these nerds listened to other than Kanye their whole lives

It must have been only Kanye and creatively bankrupt rock or pop

99% of hip hop threads that aren't this thread or only populated by people from this thread are disasters

 

It's kind of why I stopped the classics threads. They were great for conversation and was great to see people discover or rediscover stuff, but after a while, they weren't really reaching anyone new and it just felt like preaching to the choir.

If anyone else wanted to start up the classics threads again, do it with my blessing haha

Dave album is really impressive. I was shocked to learn he is 23 because I already thought he was in his 30s on Psychodrama lol

I want to watch this. Kinda wish it was a book. That cross section is a really overlooked aspect of Hip Hop history and culture.
