    hey you lil piss baby

Armand Hammer is great but there’s probably literally 1000 albums that would make the list before that lol

On my list or the 1000 albums that would make the chorus list before Armand Hammer?

Nevermind. I thought we were talking about just hip hop.

Personally it's been a slow year for hip hop for me, but at the same time it's kinda just a broken record that this site underrepresents the genre other than this thread.

It’s been excellent year for hip hop. Armand Hammer, R.A.P. Ferreira, Mach-Hommy, Evidence, MIKE, McKinley Dixon, wiki, Navy Blue, YUNGMORPHEUS, Your Old Droog.

But the majority of people that visit this site don’t ever step foot in here, so I’ve given up caring what a bunch of indie and pop punk kids think about hip hop at this point. They like what they like and we like what we like. It is what it is.

Best album of the year in any genre for me. Three guys at the peak of the career.

Aside from what's been mentioned, I'd also say Brockhampton, Polo G and Rod Wave, but I'm not sure if any other those would make my EOTY list.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

I was thinking that this year was a bit lacking in terms of like, truly great fleshed-out albums in hip-hop, but weirdly enough in terms of individual songs it's been incredible. like I thought the projects were just good, but "Falling Out the Sky" from Armand Hammer and "Nobles" from that Alchemist joint are my two most played songs this year. (wonder if it has something to do with a certain rapper they have in common lol)

gotta hear Backxwash sometime though, I've been sleeping on that

There have been very good releases, but none of them have been championed by indie rock websites or were released by artists people use as alibis, so of course they are not on this list.

Speaking of good albums, you all should listen to the new Evidence album.

That's the less hostile way of putting it compared to how I just did it :crylaugh: But you're right. I'm just in a prickly mood.

Also you should check out the Gabe 'Nandez EP.

I finally got on the Kenny Mason train. This dude lives up to the hype, his name is gonna be everywhere soon

Listened to it a few times, enjoyed it quite a bit. Need to go back to it.

Rod Wave, Tyler, Polo G, MIKE all made my midyear top 20. There’s gonna be a lot to come second half, I feel

To be clear Polo G is absolutely gonna be on my EOTY list, but like someone else said it came out very recently along with some other notable acts. Hence why they might not be on other mid year lists.

  21. Not that I’m helping anything here but I’m curious if you think Brockhampton or Tyler fall into this category or if you just forgot about them? Not knocking either or anyone that likes them, those records are good, but I’ve always had it in my head they were kinda under this umbrella

Until Tyler dropped, Mach-Hommy was (and might still be) the most praised hip hop album by indie rock websites

  23. Damn really? Haha I had no idea he was getting put on like that. Good for him. He definitely wound up pretty high on my mid-year list. Bob’s Son and Super What? top it for me tho

8.8 on Pitchfork, glowing write up on Stereogum, placed 2nd on the GVB mid-year list, to name a few off the top of my head. Obviously these publications cover way more than indie rock (so maybe I’m pointing in the wrong direction?) but I think that’s generally what they are/have been associated with.

Tyler definitely, he was just too late for those lists. I also haven’t heard the album though. I only heard that song that sounds like a 90s rap song with an R&B hook, which I love. Not sure it translates to that audience though.

My description btw. is not meant to knock those artists.
