In other news, I finally got round to listening to some DJ Screw and it's fucking great.

Bummed that there's very little Duckwrth talk since the album dropped. Might be rap AOTY for me.

I really liked his UUGLY era stuff, but haven't spent much time with anything else. Gave the new record a cursory listen, but really need to give it another spin.

It’s super diverse- he really throws caution out the window creatively, without sacrificing the fun. It’s a mood lifter, kinda reminds me of what Chance tried to do, but fell short, with The Big Day.

Geoff Barrow from Portishead and a couple of his mates from the Aussie hip hop scene make instrumental hip hop under the name Quakers and they’ve just put out a new beat tape. And it’s bloody great...

I get late OutKast vibes a bit too, SB/TLB-era. Might just be the energy of it rather than the sound itself, if that makes sense.

I just think he’s an under appreciated talent like the dude is so good

I thought he get notice from the Spider-Man soundtrack but still nope :(

i haven't liked big sean since i was a dumb teenager and dark sky paradise had just come out so imma dive into the new album with kinda low expectations (although "i know" still bangs). I've been kind of slow to catch up with hip hop releases but i find i'm enjoying a smaller ratio of what i've heard than i usually do? not a lot sticking with me, and the past few months particularly have felt lackluster. I feel like i spent all my time on this site in this thread in 2017 whereas 2020, i'm listening to so much more guitar music and straight up forgetting about this thread. Idk if it's me or hip hop just having a slow year

I think hip hop is just having a slow year

I haven’t been connecting with new music this year (except for the Headie One album) but I think that might be pandemic induced anxiety related

I think this year is much better than last. The Boldy releases, Westside Gunn, redveil, Rod Wave, Polo G, Duckwrth, Flo Mili, Gibbs, Uzi, Lord Jah Monte Ogbon, Navy Blue, RTJ, ovrkast, Shabazz, Fahim

I've loved a lot of underground releases but there hasn't been a major album by an established artist that really takes over and gets a lot of attention. Some stuff surely pushed back for COVID but still weird.

Closest thing we've had is WAP being the song of the indoor summer.

RTJ, Gibbs, Uzi, and Duckwrth are really the only ones that have stuck with me this year. A couple singles have been great but few full projects.

This year has been stellar for hip hop. Freddie & Alchemist, Boldy x 3, Blu & Exile, RTJ, Ka, Westside Gunn, The Koreatown Oddity, R.A.P. Ferreira, Mach-Hommy, MIKE & The Cool Kids have all put out really fucking great albums/projects.

Ka is great too, forgot about that one. Haven’t listened to it nearly enough as I should. All the others people named... I guess I gotta check those out too.

Gibbs, Uzi, Flo Milli, and Don Toliver have gotten the most plays from me this year, easily

    hey you lil piss baby

He’s great, this song especially. Think I posted his stuff in here once or twice. More people need to hear him, I find his lyricism vivid and quite obviously important. Hope he finds a wide audience.
