Grime has always received more attention than rap from the UK that isn’t grime, but quite a lot of the latter is similar to this

A lot of the UK stuff that gets attention is just grime-adjacent. Actual UK rap rarely gets the attention it deserves. There are legends of the scene like Jehst, Verb T, Task Force, Jam Baxter, Black Twang, Rodney P, London Posse, all of whom have never had much of a following outside the UK.

I’ve always found it odd how US rap is widely accepted over here, but outside a few grime artists with a US rap co-sign, hardly any UK rap breaks through over there.

The US doesn't import much culture at all though. Our entertainment industries are cultivated with production as top priority. We don't prioritize translating books or movies and our record labels are not at all incentivized towards publishing international music. It makes it hard to access foreign art and culture and it allows Americans to carry on the false impression that we're the only creators that matter. Sorry you probably didn't want anyone to go off on a tangent from your post but a specific genre from a foreign country has basically no shot at gaining exposure here and it sucks and I hate it

Part of it is simply due to the fact that many Americans only speak one language. Now that more and more people speak Spanish, Spanish music seems to be becoming more and more relevant. That's why I also always wondered about why more British music doesn't make it in the US, because it is in English after all.
