I get it though tbh. There’s so much music coming out right now and it’s kinda more fun to be involved with artists that are still active. I don’t listen to that much older music, and there’s even less that I listen to regularly, but there’s usually a few times a year where I dig back.

I got into music when I was like 10 with bands like Good Charlotte/Bowling For Soup, started listening to post-hardcore/metalcore a couple of years later, and didn't really get into other genres until I was 18. Modern hip hop is very hard to keep up with, I've listened to most of the "classics" from the 90s/00s but I just don't have time for anything else lol

It's never been easier to listen to the classics. Since I finally bit the bullet and got Spotify last year, I've spent so much time listening to old soul, funk and jazz.

I've found so many songs which are sampled in hip hop that I prefer the original to too haha

I’ve listened to a lot of “classic” albums but I just think as a younger person they can’t hit you as hard as they did to the people listening when they first released.

It’s definitely a different energy to hear something groundbreaking in the moment than to hear something that was ground breaking after you’ve listened to the newer artists inspired by it.

Don't agree with that at all tbh. A Love Supreme came out 19 years before I was born and I didn't listen to it for another 25 years after that and I still get the same thrill listening to that that I do with say the latest Lil Uzi Vert track or Anderson .Paak album.

Myself, I love seeing the groundwork that's been laid and listening to the music that inspired those who basically created the genre of this thread.

    edit: I spoke too soon...

I can listen to a logic/Eminem song once for comedy value, but I could not bring myself to listen to a lil dicky song

Skip them both and listen to Coltrane instead.

I don't mean to give you a hard time, btw. I get it. I have plenty of blind spots of my own too, I'm just having a laugh.
