Tried the Gunna album and thought it was so boring outside a few songs... I kept getting mad that he's blown up so much more than Thug after basically taking his sound and making it less interesting

 

I don't think he is bigger than Thug

 

Sales-wise he is I think, his new album debuted higher than any Thugger project iirc

More people definitely know who Young Thug is than Gunna though for sure

 

Gunna is a lot more watered down and easily accessible to the mainstream than Thug. I dig the album though. I gravitate toward Thug for his unique way of wording things, the way he changes his flow really often and just generally uses his voice in a lot of different ways consistently. Gunna doesn’t really have any of that going for him, but his songs are simple and catchy and his flow, although samey a lot of the time, starts to become mesmerizing the more you listen.

 

I like Gunna but Gunna is a rapper. Thug is an artist. Sorry, Gunna.

 

I like rappers

 

Rappers are artists and there isn’t a distinction. Gunna has less talent than Thug, I think you mean.

 

I think he means "lemme spit some bars over this beat I got" vs doing more. I still think both are artists, as a rapper is an artist by definition.

 

I'm not being completely serious. I would still consider Gunna (and other rappers) to be artists. I'm not trying to lessen anyone's artistic vision. Just that Thug pushes the boundaries in ways that most others don't.

 

To be fair tho, Thug is one of a kind

I've soured on Thug since the whole assault/threatening to kill his girlfriend for leaving him thing happened. Legacy is still strong but yeah. I don't like when everyone throws him up on such a pedestal

 

I totally get that. I just think artistically speaking, he's one of the most innovative people in the game right now.

I'm not rallying to cancel him or w/e, I just have to say something when people start speaking about his as a god. All that "protect Young Thug" nonsense on twitter irks me too

 

Lots of rappers are shitty people and it genuinely bothers me the extent to which others are willing to go to bat for their character because their music slaps.

Listening to problematic artists is one thing that I can't full judge someone for because I do too, but acting like they can't do wrong or are always innocent is another thing entirely. There isn't much accountability in rap.

2 Chainz is probably my fav thing ive heard this year TBH.

I like the Dreezy album now, I also really like the Blu album, also that Diplo EP, and I adore the Kehlani album. That’s about it. I’ve liked other stuff but I don’t feel like going back to it I guess. Maybe the Boogie album.
