Lol I remember the thread on AP. It wasn’t fun to be around for the most part, you would just get ripped to shreds for having a dissenting opinion. Found plenty of great artists by lurking that thread though.

    This thread >>>>>>>> that thread.

    Some Freak Supporter

I've been thinking about making another all time list for my self, not a ton of hip hop in the higher part of my top ten. Does Blonde count?

A lot of the shit I listened to growing up has not aged well, and all of the stuff I've been really into lately still needs time to like coalesce. I only feel really connected to a handful of albums each year, so I'm way biased towards more recent shit.

    Blonde
    MBDTF
    TPAB
    Acid Rap
    Speakerbox/The Love Below

    XXX by Danny Brown
    I Don't Like Shit I Don't Go Outside
So the Flies Don't Come by Milo
    Peak by Choker

Maybe like the Blueprint or Reasonable Doubt, but haven't listened to those in a while. I'm into the new Smino but haven't played it a ton, the Isaiah Rashad record was really good but does it reach that high? Maybe an MF Doom, probably Mm Food, maybe Madvillainy, that one Wale mixtape I really like but haven't heard in years, I got into the Roots by playlists when i was like fifteen, I'd probably have to do a catalogue relisten to even pick a favorite by them. I like my top five and the rest is a mess, how the fuck am I gonna do this overall.

Tough question, I can try to pick 10 later. Definitely not a lot of the standard picks

If the old heads think this is mainly a non-old head thread (which it really is, you could easily go back through the thread and and see that) and the non-old heads think it is an old head thread, we might have actually struck a good balance?

Also like whatever you like but there’s definitely too much hyperbole in today’s rap conversation

I don’t think I’ve ever thought about my album top 10

    Nas - Illmatic
LL Cool J - Mr. Smith
Cam’ron - Come Home With Me
    Wu-Tang Clan - Enter The Wu-Tang
    Ja Rule - R.U.L.E.
    Common - Be
    Jay Z - Blueprint
    Biggie - Life After Death
    Bun B - Trill
Blu & Exile - Below The Heavens / Kanye West - Late Registration / Living Legends - Classic / The Roots - Game Theory / YG - My Krazy Life / Lauryn Hill - The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill

I made this in 2 minutes and I’m already thinking of other albums

Also I know like half of it is very predictable, but classics are classics for a reason

    Just a friendly reminder

My personal favourite albums/mixtapes of the genre.

    Kanye West - Late Registration
    Outkast - Aquemini
    The Roots - Rising Down
Chance the Rapper - Acid Rap
Clipse - Hell Hath No Fury
Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp a Butterfly
    Wu-Tang Clan - Enter the Wu-Tang
    Danny Brown - XXX
    Young Thug - Barter 6
Public Enemy - It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back

Which looks pretty "old head" but isn't fully representative of my tastes.

That’s the thing isn’t it, it usually isn’t. In my case that’s because I could never make a rational top 10, all of these albums have personal stories and memories attached to them.

It's hard to come up with an all time top 10. I had to leave a lot of more recent albums that I love off of my list because I feel like I need at least 5 years with them before I can consider them all time favorites. I made an exception for TPAB.

Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
    Kanye West - Yeezus
Kid Cudi - Man on the Moon
Kid Cudi - Man on the Moon II
    Jay-Z - The Blueprint
Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp a Butterfly
    Lupe Fiasco - The Cool
    Drake - Take Care
Lil Wayne - Tha Carter III
    Nas - Stillmatic

This. Also shout out to you for having Rising Down on your list. Great album.

these lists should require the age of poster, and then albums be arranged by year they came out. Just for curiosity sake

On the old head subject: I’m probably one of them, yet I post a lot of new music. Just because I’m not really interested in music clearly made for people younger than me (i.e. emo rap) doesn’t mean the new music I post shouldn’t count, I think. I mean, I’ve even been the one in this thread that has posted about Cardi B like a year before the rest, so it’s not like I’m Mr. Nothing But Boom Bap.

tbh i think just one look at mine and anyone can guess mid to late 20s lol

Also guys I'm open to suggestions for good emo rap. I'm not entirely closed off to the idea. I just haven't liked much of what I've heard other than Lil Peep.

I’m 28 but I started listening almost exclusively (like 80%) to rap and r&b in 2001, plus I also went back to the 90s and 80s immediately, so that explains why my list looks maybe a little older than me
