I think the emo rap thing needs to go away

I do wonder if emo rap would be better or at least more interesting if the beats weren't so trappy.

I used to hate on lil peep because he just sounded lame and I used to act like an ass.

after he passed away I decided to listen to his music more and now the come over album is like one or my most played albums. I love the way he uses his voice.

I had a similar initial reaction to him though there was part of me that always sort of liked what he was trying to do but I was in denial. A few months before he passed his music started to click with me and I really started to like him. He's the kind of artist that grows on you.

I think also the only emo rap I love so far was just lil peep and a few songs from Juice WRLD. I agree with the toxic lyrical content is bad though and I hope he grows out of that.

I guess he is more R&B but Spooky Black/Corbin was really good also.

I want to like nothing, nowhere more than I do but beyond a few tracks his music just hasn't clicked with me yet.

Kinda Neat is a hip hop podcast and given their Twitter handles these guys surely somehow see themselves as SoundCloud rappers

Upon further inspection, they definitely take influence from hip hop. That clip was my first exposure and I didn’t get the connection at all so that’s my b.

I’m just burnt out on the overbearing old head mentality in this thread.

    Just a friendly reminder

I don't think that this thread has an overwhelming old head vibe. I've actually always thought that this thread focused overwhelmingly on mainstream sounds, trap, and street rap. Maybe it's been old heady a bit lately. I may have contributed to that (even though I'm only 23 haha).

no, pop punk vocalists actually have voices that sound good. Those are two random white dudes who decided they can sing without actually being able to

I agree that this thread has more of an old head mentality and doesn’t really discuss as many new school artists. I’ve come to accept it but it can be tiresome. That being said, it’s also a thread where a whole lot of different shit in the genre gets discussed that I don’t see brought up elsewhere, so I can dig it. For the most part it’s a decent balance, I just have a different personal preference than a lot of the people who frequent the thread.

This seems uncalled for though. His music is extremely important to a lot of people that are fans of the genre.
