Music journalists and Twitter users are not the gatekeepers of morality. Moral philosophers and others have worked on issues like these for literally thousands of years now and guess what: it's complicated.

I mean, it literally makes no difference WHO wrote these pieces, they are thought-provoking and worth reading.

Well don’t see how I’m supporting him then. Not promoting his project for people, not streaming, i listened to it to form an opinion on the music.

I read those first two links, I totally get it but the thing is..... people aren’t gonna stop. I dislike every artist in those articles music to begin with.

"Support" is not a word that always means monetary. Discussing his music positively is promotion. You have promoted him in this thread today already. It's very simple.

"people aren't gonna stop" is an extremely problematic mindset and the crux of a history of problems, you should re-think that mindset and do some research.

    I'm going to bed

Are they thought provoking though.... In German high schools schools you have actual Philosophy and Art History classes for many years and you excessively study the works of great thinkers that, amony other things, deal with subjects like this. I also had similar classes in my Dutch college. I might have been bored by it when I was 16 but a Fader piece now seems kind of trite compared to it. Sorry. I'm no trying to be mean or elitist about it. I'm just saying my opinions in this come from a real place too. Since we've been saying that people need to he educated about this I wanted to point out that, well, I am. On this particular subject MAYBE more than some people writing articles.

All I'm saying is, calling people garbage for listening to XXX is maybe a little too rough and doesn't reflect how complicated subjects like "art versus artist" and human morality are. I'm not even defending that guy here, I don't agree with his approach either.

Lmao, well dude hate to burst your bubble but I’m not gonna re think a mindset that is just true. Xxxtentacruel, Kodak, Tekashi, NBA, etc. all have a really young fan base as their core. Those kids are gonna support them and ride for them no matter what. It sucks but there’s nothing that is gonna stop that.

When you have rappers like Kendrick, The Weeknd, Wayne, etc. who promote them as well it just makes them grow.

These articles are getting to the audience that needs to read them, and I think that's very important. The research on these topics doesn't reach 80% of the audience who listens to these artists. You seem to be an outlier, and it's great that you have done a ton of digging into the subject. Most people have not however, and I truly think these articles (trite, simple, basic) are very thought provoking and important for the target audience.

I don't think people are garbage for making the choice to listen to these artists, I just think a lot of people don't realize the impact of the choices they take.

Agreed, though I'm not sure how many people that "need to read them" actually read them as opposed to people that already agree with the premise. I also think that the world could use maybe some simple, basic articles that look at why "art vs artist" is maybe more complicated and why both approaches have strengths and weaknesses. That should be part of educating people.

I wasn't talking about you though.

I just don’t understand why you’d want to listen to thier music in the first place. I tend to want nothing to do with women beaters or paedophiles, so wanting to listen to thier music knowing what they’ve done is just a really shitty thing to do.

That and thier music is fucking shit.

  19. This new Drake track is so good. That sample is so well used.
