  1. I wrote a facetious research paper this semester on how public education can learn from how Jay Z released Magna Carta Holy Grail and got my grade back yesterday so I listened to a few Jay albums. I'm really hoping the rumors of a new album are true—I think I like MCHG more than most and I think a 2017 Jay Z album sounds interesting.

I don't like MCHG but Jay is so good I'll always be excited

I honestly miss it sometimes, it made me more attached to albums (good albums too, not just the ones I forced myself to like lmao)

Because xxxtentacion beat his pregnant girlfriend, ill cheer on any shitty thing that happens to him

I obviously don't condone him hitting his girlfriend, but this eye for an eye mentality is kinda ridiculous. Especially when it happens at a hip hop show and then 100s of people jump on stage and join in.

Racist white people see this, know nothing xxx, and start saying things like "this is what happens when you get a whole room of them together and play rap music" - Venues stop booking rap shows, etc...

I hope his career sinks, he winds up in jail and gets harassed constantly while there... but as much fun as vigilante justice is, it needs to stop.

Again I will gladly cheer on someone who beat their pregnant girlfriend getting knocked out. If you think this is gonna change the entire discourse of racism and rap music in a negative way then okay but that's ridiculous.

you're acting like it hasn't become increasingly hard to book rap shows because of just a few incidents. it doesn't take much, so this definitly can have big waves.

I'm thinking a good way to prevent this is to not book shows for people who beat their pregnant girlfriend

    But I'm no promoter

it's almost as if the people and companies that make it difficult to organize rap shows don't care about the actual facts about that lead to incidents as long as they can use them as excuses to hurt rap

Seems to me like rappers still constantly tour so I'd say there's always gonna be some venue willing to put on a show. I'd say stuff like Travis Scott telling his fans to jump from a balcony is a much bigger liability than someone knocking someone else out but we didn't hear this big spiel about booking rap shows when that happened did we.

You can act like it's not sick as hell that a woman beater got knocked out

Whether i think it's tight he got clocked doesn't affect anything at all anyway it happened regardless lol

XXXTentacion is an awful monster and also it is bad that someone was stabbed at a hip hop show, because that's what made headlines. You can hate him and hope he gets knocked out and also feel shitty for the way hip hop shows are being promoted in the media.

It's more than that though. Sure, a horrible person got what they deserved, be happy... But this whole eye for an eye thing is just dumb. Grow up.

Aside from that, I'd rather he get jumped in the streets or something, not at a hip hop show. Why is someone paying money to go to his show and do that? It's just stupid all around.

Not saying that this is going to "change the entire discourse of racism and rap music in a negative way" but to say it has zero effect is ignorant.

Calling this "eye for an eye" is disingenuous as hell because that essentially equates getting punched in the face to beating a pregnant woman

we could argue about him not being booked at all I agree, that but should include a wider discussion about violence in hip hop and where it comes from and we'd find out that the world is complicated and humanity is bad

Don't think I said it has zero effect just said I will happily cheer on xxx getting punched. Because he beat his pregnant girlfriend. Call that eye for an eye if you want, personally don't think it makes up for what he did I just like to see someone who did that get knocked out. I'd cheer it on if it happened again.

I just feel like we're all on the same page. Fuck XXXtentacion, he shouldn't have any sort of fame and should be in jail. At the same time, violence at hip hop shows is a problem.

Some of you did just talk about which album you'd play for Pac who went to jail for sexual assault

I can't believe he has fans/supporters in the first place. Like... He got big while he was already in jail. Not like he had a career before that incident

I don't think he's equating anything, he's just using "eye for an eye" as a synonym for vigilante justice. He has used the latter term before but because this forum is the way it is he has to make the same point several times.
