J Cole is fine, but to even consider him as one of the greatest just means you're ignoring the rest of the genre entirely.

Well yeah of course but every generation tends to do that anyway. At least people are starting to move on from calling Eminem the greatest, haha.

Speaking of club shows, I've only been to one. It was for Fetty Wap and he showed up at 2:30 in the morning. I was so upset and so wasted by then that I don't even remember a single song.

The next morning I went through my phone and found a note I had written myself, the only evidence I went to the show:

"1:15 stuck in bathroom stakl stuck in thoughtlessness dreaming of a day drenched in fetty"

I was listening to Looking For Trouble now that I mention it and dang I really loved that J Cole verse. The build up to him rapping and the verse were just great.

Beautiful Bliss is imo still one of the better tracks by both J. Cole and Wale

It's probably time to revisit all the G.O.O.D. Friday songs again soon huh!

All this Paul Wall talk made me go back to the first Bun B album and it's still so fucking good

I've heard so many stories about bad experiences with rap shows (especially the artist being late) but literally the only time that's happened to me was when Kid Cudi was about an hour and a half late, but that was just because it was the same day as the TLOP MSG event in New York and he had to get from there to DC super fast. He apologized a ton and still played a full show though

I always liked Cudi, always felt he really appreciated his fans

I was a little confused by the mention of Isaiah Rashad unless they are just including him because the TDE plug.

I saw the title and instantly hoped that the first rapper mentioned was YG and I wasn't disappointed.

I also just learned I've been getting Boogie and Boogie With A Hoodie mixed up.

Definitly not the same rappers, haha.

I think he mentions Rashad to point out Top Dawg's game plan, not necessarily the rapper himself.

And yeah Jeff and the whole Passion Of The Weiss crew have always championed YG above all else. They gave Still Brazy album if the year if I'm not mistaken.

The Fader keeps spamming that Taylor Bennett piece so I decided to check out his music. Not bad.

I got around to watching Hip-Hop Evolution, the Netflix documentary. There is nothing new in there and it's of course not nearly as detailed as books like "Can't Stop, Won't Stop: A History Of The Hip Hop Generation", but it's still fun and it'll certainly give you some solid insights into the history of Hip Hop, from the very beginning (that is excluding the Jamaican sound system scene and the street gangs of the Bronx - the book I mentioned takes a deep dive into those subjects) up to the rise of Gangsta Rap.

If anyone wants to know more about the street gangs aspect, definitely watch Rubble Kings. Really good doc.
