    Still A Threat Prestigious

I've stumbled across some peak-era Saigon tracks and now I'm depressed over how his career went.

Still the best video game related rap song.

I was thinking about it and I think my first rap show was actually Paul Wall at some shady night club. I was probably not old enough to be there, was WAY out of place, and was just sitting there awkwardly waiting until like 2 in the morning for something to happen. He finally performed like 4 songs and left.

After that I attempted to go see Ludacris. Bought tickets way in advance, went to the venue the day of the show only to find out it had been cancelled. Then I tried to see Twista at some other seedy night club and he never showed.

Rap shows are always so hit or miss.

First two cassettes I bought were:

    Master P: Ghetto D
Triple Six Mafia: Chapter 2 world domination

That has to be the winner. I can't top Paul Wall in a shady night club. Did players rise and haters fall? I'll see myself out.

Also, rap shows are often hit or miss, but I have learned over the years that "old school rappers" that at some point have been pretty or very successful are usually really good live, even if you don't care much for them otherwise. For example, LL, EPMD, De La Soul and The Pharcyde are some of the best shows I have seen period. Also, as long as a rapper shows up and has hits, it's usually cool regardless of performance skills, haha.

Those are both such great albums. I may listen to both today because of this post.

Agreed. I've learned to avoid club appearances and be a little more picky about which artists I go see.

Both are still perfect 10/10 albums for me. Listen to them quite regularly. Wish I still had my No Limit chain I used to rock in 6th grade :(

@suicidesaints Same. Paul Wall had his moments though, but maybe not live, haha.

He actually wasn't bad. He only played a few songs so it was all hits and it was like 2002 or 2003 so Get Ya Mind Correct had just come out and he was at his peak imo. I wouldn't see him in 2017 though.

I mean I would but I would not have expectations haha. Did you see that shit with him and Baby Bash that went down last year? If not you should google their names right now haha

No you're right, he's not a remarkable rapper but Joey Bada$$ can make some good songs whereas I don't think I've ever actually enjoyed a J Cole song.

I've listned to all of Cole's albums multiple times... and right now, trying has hard as I can, I can't think of one song name. I know that first album or two had a hit, but can't recall what it is

I was gonna reply to @OotyPa saying "He had some good songs on Friday Night Lights" and, like you, I can't think of any of their names, so I guess I'm wrong about that.

I will say though that J. Cole is very good live. I'm not saying "Go out and see J. Cole live", but I'm saying if you're in a situation where you have to watch J. Cole live you won't be miserable.

It amazes me that people go apeshit over his stuff. I've even heard people say he's one of the greatest rappers alive now, which bewilders me beyond belief. Once I was in a coffee shop and J Cole came on and the barista started dancing and saying how he's GOAT, super woke, super lyrical. The dude writes some positive stuff, for sure, but the actual MUSIC of it all is so unmemorable

    J. Cole is largely being dismissed by broad music media and fan bases (often white) and largely praised by "dedicated" hip hop media and fan bases. Maybe people need to consider the possibility that they don't get it because it isn't for them. No shots.

I mean, if him and Chamillionare were to perform together, I'd be there, but I don't think I know any of Paul Wall's solo stuff post 2003. The drug bust with Baby Bash was crazy, but yeah the police don't like weed here in Texas unfortunately.
