every week now, it seems, a rapper dies young from an overdose or gun violence or something that could've been avoided. it's devastating. what does the culture need to do to further protect (and essentially humanize) its rappers? it's an epidemic that has sadly become normalized.

Rich Homie was an incredible melodic genius who IMO never got his flowers. His vocals managed to be vulnerable, full of yearning, and still technically insane on a rhythmic level. Tha Tour Part One, a mixtape with him, Young Thug (and a little bit of Birdman) in particular is a modern classic if you've somehow never heard it. here's a playlist of the whole tape

His more recent stuff is also great. He always included lyrics that openly bared his heart but possibly moreso with the recent stuff. these two went underappreciated when they dropped

Rich Homie Quan was only 34. may he rest in peace.

This one is so good. Idk how you can enjoy early Future, Migos, and the best of Young Thug and not also be into this. He put his all into his music and it showed

The impact Rich Gang Tha Tour had on the scene back in the day was immense, and Rich Homie Quan’s contributions were a huge part of its success. Definitely going to listen to some of his later projects today in honor - RIP

I just know him from his work in Rich Gang. But I liked the tracks he was on. Lifestyle was huge when it came out and is such a banger. RIP.

I listened to Still Going In, I Promised I Will Never Stop Going In, Family and Mula, and Tha Tour today after hearing the news. Funny thing is they all hit so many different corners of rap that I don’t feel tired of it at all. Dude was a true artist and persistently tested his limits.

Listening to the LL record now, I’m about halfway through. Sonically a lot more experimental than I would have guessed. LL raps as sharp as ever though. He has lost nothing in the last 11 years. So far I’m into it, but I can tell it needs more than one spin to get a proper impression.

I don’t like the Saweetie song, man. Also not big on the opener.

Also Q-Tip is all over this record vocally too, even though he doesn’t appear as a feature on the tracklist.

EDIT: I like it a lot. Will probably cut 2, 3 tracks though for my version.

Half way through it myself, digging the production so far. Some of his rhymes seem a bit off at times, but still sounding really good.
