I don’t remember any Lil’ Yachty song coming out after his debut album. Has he been around?

I agree, lots of soul influence on these tracks and that’s what makes this a refreshing listen to me and not just a Tame Impala ripoff or rap artist trying rock like some people have been saying, it’s his own take on it and it’s done well imo

Yeah, very funky and neosoul-y. It reminds me of Blood Orange a bit. Mixed with new Tame Impala or weirder Alex G tracks—so it makes sense he has a writing credit. I hear a bit of Andre 3000 as well in there, but that could just be his voice resembles his in the spoken track.

I checked out a few tracks and musically I'm very into it, but I really have a hard time taking his voice seriously, just sounds so silly to me

    Teenage Emotions is really great

  6. Looking back at that thread, there was apparently a stretch of songs on Teenage Emotions that “bout fucking killed me” six years ago so I guess I gotta revisit that lol

I like the Yachty album quite a bit on first listen.

  10. Alright, the Yachty record is really good. I bet I’ll return to this more than I have anything else of his. Kinda reminds me of Blood Orange in places, really cool pivot for him

edit: ah I see the Blood Orange comparison has been made!

I don’t know what it is but I just love this ice spice ep a bunch. She always finds a way to make her song catchy in some way.

I’d probably enjoy this Lil Yachty record more if it was done by anyone other than Lil Yachty. Musically it’s not bad. But I’ve always thought he had a very annoying voice and can’t sing for shit.

I agree with that. He’s a good songwriter but he doesn’t sound good.

I agree with all that. At the same time, I listen to plenty of artists with bad vocals in other genres and after a few listens, I don’t notice them as much. I don’t love Yachty’s voice but I did appreciate how he tried different effects and experimented his range a bit on this album.

In a sense, he’s in the same category as Carti for me, someone who’s unique vocals add to the appeal in my personal enjoyment, but also I can understand how people would not enjoy it for that reason

I get the issue with his voice. Disagree about him not being able to sing, he clearly knows where the notes are and how to get to them, but the timbre is way off. Sounds silly for sure lol. It works for me in this case though, like it’s more endearing than anything

I finally got around to it myself and it really is extremely good. I even just bought the vinyl. Like I said before, I've always liked the guy and thought he had more range than people gave him credit for (he can equally hold his own on trap and pop songs, and can do a bunch of different hip-hop subgenres too), but I still never would have guessed he was capable of this. He's only like 25 too, this has made him an artist that I will be actively looking forward to what he does next now. Hopefully he continues experimenting and doesn't go back to the tired Migos-ripoff he was doing for a while

Now I wonder if he can pull this off live

Think he deleted the post but he was holding auditions to put together a band with women only for what I would assume would be this tour which obviously would be very sick
