drake's music is easily digestible and relatively inoffensive. being confused by his success is like being confused by the ubiquitousness of mcdonalds. in 50 years people will look at him and think "yeah, this makes sense"

he had a solid run from 2009-2015 but i haven't paid much attention to anything he has released since views. that being said, more life is definitely his best playlist

 

I’m never surprised about anyone being famous or big for a while, but I am a little surprised about his longevity. He doesn’t really stand out in terms of talent among many other previously big rappers who couldn’t stretch it out for more than five years.

 

It’s less about his ability as a rapper or singer, and more about his ability to capitalize on styles and artists that are either popular at the time, or just on the cusp of success.

 

That’s a good point, he’s a powerful vampire

 

It’s always funny to see what style will drake try next on his albums.

I remember when he did the playboi carti style for that one album

 

I just got to say kaytranda and female vocalists is absolutely hitting. He produces the best hits for them.

When I was like 7 or so, I was at my grandma’s house and she overheard me singing along to the chorus of 1, 2, 3, 4 on my headphones. She was like “what is that” and I was like “Coolio!” but I could tell she disapproved, so in a dumb effort to lighten her up I went “he sings the kenan & kel theme song on Nickelodeon” and she goes “you’re not allowed to watch that show anymore”

I only really knew his big songs but that's really fucking sad, way too young

 

Gangsta’s Paradise, the album, is a stone cold classic and I highly recommend it. R.I.P. Coolio. Your art meant a lot to me growing up.

 

This is a great thread. I feel like a lot of people now don’t know that Coolio actually was the real deal. It’s time to finally change that.

 

Ah shit. Monstars Anthem is still one of the best crew joints of all time. RIP.
