I think one of the coolest moments on the JID album is when you get to Kody Blu 31, 7 tracks in, and out of nowhere he has a fucking great singing voice! What a unique and cool tone, very impressed. I had to check and see if it was an uncredited feature or not.

I only now listened to the new tracks on the deluxe release of the Dave East album. Really good. Some of the best tracks I have heard by him.

I have decided to walk around the neighbourhood everyday for health reasons. I figured it is also a great time to listen to new rap albums without a lot of distractions.

I listened to the new Joey Badass album. I think it's very well made, but it's more mellow than I was hoping for.

I also listened to the Black Thought album. Also very well made, but I nevertheless caught myself thinking "I wish I was listening to a new album by The Roots instead".

I don't know what's going on with my this year.

I really liked the Black Thought album but I wish he had a second type of chorus. He’s so consistent but that consistency can also bring down a longer project when it all kind of blurs together.

I was relistening to Red Veil’s album and I’m liking it more and more, kid is special for sure.

Not as great a year for rap as I hoped, but still some great albums dropped this year that fell under the radar. I think my faves are Lupe, Flo Milli, They Hate Change, JID, Denzel, and Phife Dawg. Still need to check out Little Simz. Wild to think we also got Saba, Earthgang, Future, 2 Chainz, Kendrick, Earl, Maxo Kream, Wale, and several other albums that just didn't leave much of an impression (whether deserved or not).

Phife is next on my list. I didn’t even know there was new Wale. I need to check that out too.

For some reason I was on a huge old Kanye kick the past week only listening to the first three albums. The song I specifically was in love with was Touch The Sky just because I fell in love with that Lupe Fiasco verse.

  22. We're walking into that song at my wedding reception. Unless I can convince my fiancee to walk into Quincy Jones' Austin Powers theme.

I also listened to Late Registration a couple of times this week. I always said it is his best album but I think I might prefer College Dropout at the moment. Both are great though of course.
