I feel like as a kid when I checked this out I found it to be wayyyy too abrasive to get into. There's still tracks that grate on me, but Chuck D's voice really carries the entire thing. Just a perfect mix of him/the beats/Flav
Yeah same here, it took me a little while. I was into LL’s Radio already which I guess also sounds kinda abrasive, but less noisy.
Random thoughts: I like the back and forth banter between the members. Terminator X is a badass name. The Beastie Boys must have been influenced by the track Party For Your Right To Fight.
Chuck D's voice really is one of the most iconic voices ever eh? Maybe ima show my age, but growing up Flavva flav was really just "that guy with a dating show" so it blew my mind when I learnt about Public Enemy.
I’ve heard stray tracks from this - and love ‘em all - but never checked out the full thing Guess now is a good time to change that
man i love this. first time hearing it in full, though I'm familiar with a handful of songs. chuck fucking rules. the production is great. flava is fun. hell yeah.
Can definitely see how the abrasiveness would be tough to swallow at first, glad that’s something that’s more in my wheelhouse now otherwise I don’t think I’d have liked this as much. Big fan.
don’t believe the hype through terminator x all are really good also chuck is rapping his butt off on this
Also my first time listening to this (or any Public Enemy album) in full, it rules and Flav is fun as hell. love Louder Than A Bomb
I honestly feel like this is a lot more accessible than I was expecting. I don't think it's super abrasive at all
The squeal in Don't Believe the Hype is the kind of “abrasiveness” I’m thinking of. I’ve only had two listens, but it felt like there were a lot of moments like that that could be a lil tough on the ears at first
haha my b, i meant i was planning to send this to him but he was the second to post. i’ll be reading up on these threads for sure. this is really cool.
