Yep, that'll do it! You always here about sample clearance nightmare stories, especially in the 90's. The Godzilla sample that Rawkus never cleared for Simon Says gave Pharoahe Monch PTSD.
Yeah there was a documentatry about soul singer Syl Johnson and a part of talks about his songs being sampled and stuff but never receiving any credit or money. Its all been corrected since and I think he has a plaque in his house that says something like the house that Wu built. Dont quote me on that though.
“But if I fall asleep and death takes me away Don't be surprised son, I wasn't put here to stay At night the evil armies of Shaton don't play So the family sticks together and we never betray“ Im kicking myself for not listening to Lauryn Hill before this.
Yeah checking this out for the first time. This is amazing, and it’s crazy I had no idea Ready Or Not was their song. I always assumed it was a LH solo song.
I enjoyed this on first listen, but I’ll be honest - my barrier to getting into hip hop largely has always been that I feel like I’m missing a lot of context, and part of that is that I’m not a super lyrically driven music listener. So while there’s definitely some hip hop that hooks me on the surface, a lot of it slips through the cracks for those reasons, and then I also feel like I lack the knowledge or vocabulary to discuss the genre in a way that’s at all educated. I’m definitely interested though, so I would welcome any thoughts from anyone.
I just want to point out what a moron I am. I love this album, I love the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. I have enjoyed songs by Wyclef Jean over the years. Until first looking at this thread, I did not realize Lauryn Hill and Wyclef were in Fugees. Wow.
