The only musician I can see myself crying during the set is Julian Baker. It's a super intense feeling but, man, it's unbelievable. Really makes me glad I've been able to rekindle my love of music in the last year or so.

Actually, I did tear up a bit when I saw Tim Barry last fall, but that was less about his music but more about him as an individual and the role he played in a pivotal point in my life.

 

Gaslight/Brian is it for me, it’s the only body of work that’s stood the test of time with my tastes. i always find new bands i love, like Menz, but even with them i am finding diminishing returns to a small extent. i love them but i don’t have that connection to personal things that i do with Brian. some of these songs ive associated with certain things since high school and it’s almost like a sense memory at this point. i will genuinely be a mess when it’s the real deal in a month haha

 

Dude, that is an incredible feeling. I had that with the wonder years because I'm the same age as Dan Campbell so everything written hit me at the exact same time. But they've released two straight albums I don't like and had a lot of stuff mishandled with JJR that made me sour on the band a bit. So I've kind of lost that. The stuff from my formative years doesn't hold up anymore either musically or morally which sucks, save for The Get Up Kids, basically.

It's probably not healthy, but I low-key love when stuff evokes such strong negative emotions out of me like sadness. Music, movies, whatever.

 

i am the same way with The Wonder Years. i like the new record but i haven’t returned to it, something just doesn’t click all the way even though i really enjoyed my first listen. Brian’s perspective is also something i really appreciate: a creationist faith that acts like he was pulled out of the 60s, but one of the first to come out in support of Laura Jane Grace’s transition, very anti-Trump, etc.
