the whole thing is allegory without making narrative sense, which I'm not a huge fan of. But the third act did trigger my anxiety so it had that going for it

I think the narrative works if you just accept the world is unrealistic. It's like dream logic. It's like a nightmare.

I'm here for any sort of mother! love. I don't think I breathed during the entire last act of that movie. You either buy into it or you don't, and I absolutely did.

Hereditary is like the epitome of a movie I respected more than I enjoyed and have absolutely no desire to ever revisit.

I'm already obsessed with dreams in general, so when a show or movie pulls of legit dream logic, like Twin Peaks, I get all hot and bothered.

I especially hate it in books, it's so hard for me to pay attention to long abstract dream sequences in print

very good way of putting it.

i personally don’t feel like the story took me on the journey to what it became at the end, it felt like it more just dropped me there

  12. I'd watch Raw again. Is it weird that I found that more fascinating than disturbing?

Hereditary, though, as fascinating as it is, is really too upsetting.

Also would not watch Requiem or Antichrist again.

I don't think there's anything I've ever watched that was too disturbing or upsetting to ever watch again. Maybe Hatchi?

Guess I just found it to pretty horrifying and upsetting. He blends a guinea pig in the garbage disposal, doesn't he? And then kills his parents and goes on a school shooting with a bow and arrow, right? I had no idea what to expect going in the movie and it was really engrossing, but ended up being too brutal for my tastes.

Irreversible definitely has aspects of torture porn in it. The rape scene is unbearable and I skipped through it, actually. I find the technical work in Noe's movies to be really impressive and impactful, but the narrative content is more-often-than-not too far up its own ass. I like Enter the Void more than anything else he's put out for that reason. The story kinda takes a backseat in that one.

Still gotta see mother! I love dream logic in art so, so much.

I say this as a fan of Aronofsky, but Mother! is just a movie saying "Look how clever I am" for 2 hours. Once I realized what it was doing about half an hour in there was literally not an interesting idea to be had afterwards and by the end I was rolling my eyes constantly haha

He wrenches on it. He thinks it's his.

I think once you know what he's doing, the movie gets more interesting. It was facinating watching it unfold.

That's an interesting perspective that makes no sense to me haha. I feel like if you know the story of the Bible everything's going to be super obvious.

Plot points of your spoiler text may be obvious but I loved the interpretation of it!

Have you watched The Sopranos? They have a few episodes that explores Tony’s dreams and subconscious.

One of my favorite shows and it’s interesting how they tackle dream sequences, I guess it ties in with how psychology plays within the show. There’s a dream scene where he’s out at dinner with family and all of a sudden teeth start falling out of his mouth and a random celebrity is at his table, two things that frequently occur in my dreams.
