No one thinks The House of the Devil is one of the scariest movies to be released in the last decade?

I absolutely loved it and I believe someone mentioned it on the last page or two.

This movie was everything I wanted and more. Can't wait to see it again.

I was hoping that since I waited a couple weeks I would have a mostly empty theater but no. Actually had to yell at somebody to stfu. I just kept wondering like.. what's funny about what you're seeing?

I had two friends tell me they saw it separately and they were laughing throughout the whole thing and thought it was terrible.

I just can't get that unless you actively try to not let a movie affect you. Which, at that point, what are you even doing going to see a movie?

Yeah I forgot to add Get Out to that list, great movie. I’ve never seen It Comes At Night, is that one good? Also never saw Cabin in the woods cause I read the plot on Wikipedia when it first came out and never felt the need to see, though I’ve only heard good things. Also need to watch mother!

It Comes At Night is probably the least traditional horror out of any mentioned. It didn’t do much for me personally but I also had no idea what to expect going in. Cabin in the Woods was one of the most fun movies I ever saw in a theater. So funny and incredibly clever.

This was better than The Witch, IMO, but The Witch is still super rad.

If you're taking rec's, I HIGHLY recommend It Follows. Here are some others that I really like: Oculus, The Witch (obvs mentioned, but I think it's worth saying again!), A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, The Guest, The Autopsy of Jane Doe, Pyewacket, and The House of the Devil. Those are all pretty recent.

I'm going to the Salem Horror fest this year and they're screening it AND having the Faculty of Horror do a live podcast episode on it and I've never been so excited for something. (Also if anyone in this thread doesn't listen to FOH, PLEASE do. They're so smart and cool.)

Raw, The Wailing, Revenge, Starry Eyes, The Devil's Candy, Blackcoat's Daughter, Darling and Carnage Park are all worthy of being in the conversation of recent/high-minded horror outside of everything else that has been mentioned (off the top of my head)

Kill List is the most underrated horror film of the 2000s

Also the xx. Isn't great, but I'm all for female driven horror (or female driven anything).

Seeing the poster for Raw in my Plex library when we scroll past it still puts my girlfriend on the verge of a panic attack.

I’m biased towards HotD because it was filmed in my home state of CT and the college campus scene is where I went to grad school
