I liked it but it didn’t do much for me. It made me realize how especially terrifying The Excorcist must have been when it came out though - they came out within (5?) years of each other and The Excorcist is just so visually jarring compared to it and I know Rosemary was still considered to be very unsettling for its time. I definitely noticed how Rosemary was a trend setter for a lot of horror elements we still see today

After seeing this a second time, realize the paint that spills onto the paper with Joan’s number knocked over “on its own” — thought Toni bumped it the first time.

That's a good detail to catch, I assumed she had bumped into it too which I assume they expect most people to think. Unless we're just dumb lol

This is hands down my favorite movie I’ve seen all year. Can’t stop thinking about it. I’m gonna have to go see it again and I never go see a movie in a theater more than once. Instant classic.

Saw this Friday. I only watched the trailer before once and heard good things. OH MAN did I not see the car scene happening.

What I enjoyed most is how some simplicity really drove this. Scenes with things in corners but not overly obvious, or cut-scenes where you may miss something(s). And the fact a film could get a whole theater to jump and scream over: cluck.

Listened to the soundtrack today, Reborn is so good. Also, I wonder why it’s spelled Paimon in the movie, but Paemon on the soundtrack

This was so great. The entire end sequence was masterful. Reminded me a lot of Lords of Salem, The Witch, and one of the Paranormal Activity sequels. I’m sure I missed a lot, but looking forward to going to see it again.

I didn’t think they ever wanted Charlie did they? Annie tells her that she was always her grandmother’s favorite, but Charlie also says how she always wished she was a boy. So maybe getting Paimon into Peter was the plan the whole time?

But it also sounds like Joanie tried to transfer Paimon to a more compatible host (male) to her son and grandson. And that’s how they died.

oh yea I wrote that before finding out that Charlie had Paimon inside the entire time. The grandmother wanted Charlie to be a boy since that was more ideal, but they still used Charlie since Annie kept Peter away. And then they finally got what they wanted at the end.

I missed that a number of members from the grief therapy group were in the cult.

I doubt there even is a real grief group. The whole scene with them was weird.

Was there an indication of how Annie found out about and where the grief group met?

Possibly from the flyer that is slipped into her mail slot? And I can't exactly recall but does she mention at the grief meeting that she had tried one before due to all the prior tragedy in her life with her brother/dad or am I imagining that?

She did mention that yes, but the flyer wasn’t slipped into her door until after she hung out with Joan the first time I believe. I’m guessing that her ignoring the flyer is why Joan was waiting for her outside of the craft store to tell her about the group seance thing

I don’t think we’re shown any specifics about her finding out about it beforehand. It seemed to be just in some generic public building but I didn’t pay much attention to the location. I agree that the flyer slipped in was because she hadn’t come back to the group.

I wonder if any of the photos of her mother were in the same place or if they were in houses. I didn’t notice the background particularly but that would be a really cool touch.

if I’m remembering correctly, she mentioned that she was forced to go there before
my guess is when her dad and brother died her mom set up the group

Wasn't the flyer for the seance only, not the grief group? I might be remembering wrong.

Yes, it's implied that's how they were trying to get her to do the seance but she didn't so Joanne "coincidentally" bumped into her at the store.

No yea but some people were saying above that might have been how she knew about the grief group, but I think it was only for the seance

Right, but I'm pretty sure the flier is after she's already gone to the grief group.

yes, but someone above said the opposite so that's why I said I was pretty sure it was only for the seance and yes also because it was after the first group part.

This is a non-conversation anyway because someone already said what I had said but I missed it, so yea haha

I also think the flyer was only for the seance, but yeah I wouldn’t be surprised if their original plan was to host it at one of the meetings (assuming the grief therapy help group wasn’t real in the first place).
