Take arms, it'll all blow over Prestigious

I was focused on the house which was still in center frame

It was very creepy. But I think there were a few scenes where what you were supposed to see was dark and made you question if you actually saw something or not. Fantastic movie though.

I didn’t notice it and I think I was just focused on the house itself and kind of reeling about what had just happened. I noticed lots of other stuff so it surprises me that I didn’t catch that.

Watch it again, and let us know what you think. I have a feeling you'll think to yourself, how did I not see that the first time?! I mean, they're all over the yard. Higher ground, low, some far away, some closer. It's a beautiful shot.

Is it when it’s dark or light?

Watched the Half in the Bag and see that this film is very much not for me.

Someone mentioned this earlier, so I paid close attention to all the exterior shots of the house on my second viewing. I saw it pretty clearly this time. It's super creepy.

Like people were straight up laughing during the dinner scene, the séance scene with the family, and pretty much the entire end of the movie right up to when you get inside the treehouse. Like I can understand that some parts or elements can be seen as humorous to people but come the fuck on, grow up. Seeing naked people in a movie is not funny, you’re not five years old. Ugh, people suck.

That sucks so bad. I would have been livid.

I laughed after the dinner scene was over (before she leaves) because the way she just goes back to her salad after all that reminded me so much of When Harry Met Sally... in an odd way and I loved it. There are definitely some beats thrown in to lighten the mood, especially Gabriel Byrne’s one-liners, but I’m really glad I was in a showing where people reacted out of fear or disgust and not mocking. The collective gasp when she told Peter she didn’t want to be his mom was one of my favorite recent crowd moments.

Is that shot you guys are talking about directly after the fire sequence? It was so fast, I didn't see the people either.

That pretty much describes my experience seeing it on Saturday. There was laughter throughout the entire thing, especially at the emotional scenes. My friend next to me laughed at a lot of it, even stuff that no one else thought was funny (like the sleepwalking scene where she talks to the son). It really ruined the mood for me. (He later said it was one of the worst movies he’d ever seen.)

Anyways, I’ve had images from this movie stuck in my head all week. I have issues with the movie as a whole, but it’s really stayed with me in a way that most horror movies never do.

My first showing was at an indie theater where the main crowd are there to appreciate cinema, second viewing when I took my mom was at the AMC, which isn't bad, but it was in "dining" half which SUCKS. The lights on the consoles between seats don't shut off. So a lot of that crowd was bored people getting drunk at the movies. There were some laughs that you could tell were from people who were uncomfortable, which is fun, but there was a lot of laughing at naked people too. It's a bummer. The local AMC to me cut it's seating capacity in half to include have dine in screens and they put horror movies on that side...

Not to mention the waiter cleaning up silverware during the entire attic scene at the end.

  16. People laughing at my viewing didn’t really seem to be a product of disliking the movie, but maybe more of a misreading of delivery. I think there were a few intentionally funny parts scattered throughout, and some people just took that and ran with it, thinking more of it was “supposed” to be funny than it was actually intended to be.

There were multiple shots of Peter crying and/or screaming hysterically that oddly reminded me of Reese from Malcolm In The Middle, lol. Context should still be enough reason to not laugh though.

I thought the guy playing Peter acted very well, minus when he cried. Everything else was great.

I was at the Marcus Theater Bistro room for this so I definitely know what you’re talking about. I was so damn annoyed at the waiter, he was serving couples on either side of me and he would always stand right in front of my view at certain points which drove me nuts.

Wild to believe that the Naked Brothers Band would grow up to be decent actors. Well maybe not so much Nat.

I can see why people aren’t into the crying but I thought it showed just how much he had disconnected and was reverting to a very childlike state. The reactions were like that of a toddler and not an intelligent high schooler.

Oh, to clarify, I was referring to his crying specifically during the seance scene when she was talking like a little girl. His crying in the attic and screaming mommy totally worked for me.

  22. Yeah, exactly what I meant by “context”. The way he acted during those scenes falls very in line with the perspective that Peter was being broken down mentally to prepare for what ends up happening to him

The shot near the end with the headless bodies bowing down to him is sticking with me, especially the rotting black corpse of the grandmother. Pretty badass.

That was the part when everyone stopped laughing too. Naked people and a floating body? Funny. A Satanic ritual with a rotting beheaded corpse bowing to a possessed Peter while someone is verbally rejecting the Trinity? Not so funny.
