And all the actors are great but Connor has the best line deliveries. When Ilya meets shane at the stairwell and asks if he's going to murder him, or when they talk about meeting up in Montreal and shane asks where and Ilya asks "you are homeless?" And yeah basically every Ilya quip about shane being boring Also the intimacy coordinator needs their own award show category!!
But I think the most unrealistic part to me was them being recognized in public frequently. I mean I guess they're in Canada a lot where hockey is bigger but any time one of the players is just randomly recognized in the wild I'm like rly sis?? But that's just my not caring about sports bias I suppose!
Yeah they’re supposedly at the level of Ovechkin or like Gretzky back in the day…not some second line enforcer or something so it makes sense haha
I also love all the stuff with his teammates. Never in life have I blushed. Russians do not do this. Good job. I love you. I love you. I love you. TELL PEOPLE.
I know who gretzky is by name but couldn't pick that dude out of a lineup and IDK who the other person is. But I guess other kids and people watch sports and stuff. I just gotta remind myself that people watch sports like I watch popstars and I guess it makes sense lol
Lol I tried checking out the audiobook and I'm sure the narrator is fine but it reminded me of why I never listen to audiobooks. I wish I could listen to them in general but the voices just always make me laugh. Every time he does Ilyas accent I just think he kinda sounds like dracula or a vampire and I can't take it seriously at all. Granted this is probably like the worst book to listen to on audiobook haha
Just read the books. I downloaded them onto the phone. I can't wait for my friends to catch up and read The Long Game or watch season 2 because it's a real tear jerker. Connor Storrie is going to blow people away even more than he has already.
There are lots of holds at my local library but the audiobook is available now. and I'm trying not to buy more physical books. I already work in a bookstore and buy too many I don't read as it is lol. Maybe I should invest in a kindle or something. Not just for this book but others too. I wanna support my local library but I'm too impatient sometimes I don't think I'd read the long game before season 2 tho. I've seen general very brief synopsis of some parts but not enough to spoil and I kinda want it to be a surprise with the show! Also ngl the book description of Ilya says he's handsome but when it goes into detail about his face nothing described sounds handsome to me lol so thank gawd for Connor
If you go for a kindle I’d recommend getting one on Woot for like half off, they’re refurbished but it’s a device that doesn’t need bells and whistles. You just need to wait for a “drop”
Okay. Rewatch commenced. I'm so dumb. When they were at Ilya's I thought Shane had already spent the night and then that's when they wake up to eat. I didn't realize it was like a nap?? But I guess I didn't question it because Ilya being a diabolical gremlin making a tuna melt for breakfast just seemed in character. But I kept waiting for Shane to be like ???? And he never did Makes more sense it was a nap.
Also just finished the hidden rivalry book and I wanted to wait for the next season to read the next one but uggh it takes so long!!
No girl, just read it. It's okay. The book and show are different experiences. You can know what's going to happen, but it's still just as exciting. It's really satisfying to know their inner thoughts from the book and see that translated on the screen. I have been reeling since the announcement of a 3rd Shane/Ilya book. Already pre-ordered and can not wait until September.
Okay u convinced me and the hold time is only 4 people in line ahead of me vs Hidden Rivalry which was like 635 people ahead of me, but Libby wants me to confirm my library card and idk my pin/password so now they want me to call my library before they will let me place the hold. Ironically I am closely associated with the local library system and know many people on the library board so I am having v betrayed "don't you know who I am??" Moment right now Edit: and for the record I borrow stuff thru libby all the time so it's double annoying! I'm reading another book on libby right now! Edit again: I figured it out. I may have overreacted a smidge
I think the best praise I have heard about this show is from a gay man who was like "I love that I didn't learn a single thing about hockey after watching this." For real Cause my bookstore had a "If you liked HR you may like..." Section and idek what book I chose from it. Probably wouldn't even recognize it. Because it was so boring and I didn't finish it. So many parts describing the hockey games like Like I know hockey romance is a big book genre but for me the hockey aspect is the absolute least important part by far. Enemies to lovers is fun. I do not care about hockey.
Hahaha. I actually learned a few things. Like what a hat trick is. I'd read a few hockey romances before this one. Even less hockey in them since those were a hockey guy and girl. I'm looking forward to the adaptation of The Deal. That's coming out this year and multiple books are being adapted like HR.
Okay I'm almost done with the long game and this isn't spoilers at all but it's messing with me how old they act like Shane and Ilya are in this book. I keep having an existential crisis thinking there's been a huge time jump from the end of heated rivalry to this but there really isn't. They just reference themselves being old so much. And I get they're probably like hockey middle aged but I keep expecting them to be like decades older now the way they and other players talk about them sometimes lol. Not a complaint, just messing with me haha Edit: okay I just googled their character birthdays and they're my age so how actual dare they make them seem old this is now a personal attack lol
Wow, tiktoker got hired by HBO to do promos and trailers because of their Heated Rivalry edit. It's that good too. Look up uhbucky account and it's an edit set to Sweet Dreams.
Okay not to be dramatic but when they're in the stairwell and Ilya says "Such a good trick" I'm pretty sure it altered my entire brain chemistry and I'll never be the same.
This entire show has altered my brain chemistry. Connor and Hudson both announced their next role! Connor booked an A24 comedy and Hudson is doing a Crave thriller drama.
