Ughh. I hate that he tweeted that cause this record fucking rules. It’s probably going to be in my rotation all summer.

 

Actually finding the record slightly disappointing, the productions good but it sort of ends there for me.

Maybe it will grow on me...

Track one is ok. Thought the rest was a sad rip off of the menzingers lol.

 

Never heard of these guys until last week when I saw the album on Apple Music... really dig it.

Listened to this the other day and thought it was okay. Opening song is great, then it drops off in quality considerably imo. Some really gross lyrics on here too, but that's probably just me.

 

Naw, the lyrics have made me take a step back from it tbh.

Examples of gross lyrics? Not debating the point, just curious.

 

I don’t like Cut My Losses, I don’t like the message and I don’t like how ardently it’s expressed.

 

Also what is ostensibly a pop-punk chorus that goes “I have become so cold, so numb, load up my gun, I’m out for blood” is, I think, a bit tone deaf to the greater gun control discourse at the moment and I don’t love that

 

Color me shocked that the guys who defended Better Off have some gross lyrical content

 

Thinking more on this topic, I was reading on the HAM twitter that publicists were avoiding the record during it's pre-release promotion cycle because of the lyrical content (specifically on Cut My Losses). That, in combo with their empathetic tweet regarding better off's situation, paints a pretty clear picture of an underdog complex.

 

The line "I don't hope you're doing better" in the context of a song about a suicidal individual is not great

 

Unfortunately, I think It's hard for someone who gets into this specific type of heated mindset to reconcile with the fact that the emotionally charged, inappropriate, lyricism is irresponsible and unhealthy for all who are involved.

 

Especially because there is a way to have a conversation about emotional manipulation in a healthy, responsible way. This is just not that.

 

Lots of people going through difficult relationships that end, and listening to that sort of provocation in a song could be triggering to many. It's disgusting.

Interesting that in the middle of a pandemic where people are dying Eric tweets a pic (obviously a joke but still) of him holding an item which also kills people. This bands aesthetic is really weird sometimes.
