Does anyone do a pre workout drink? I split a jar of powder with my sister and she swears she gets all tingly and energized and it doesnt go away unless she works out but I notice no difference. I am using it anyway cause I figure vitamins cant rly hurt but I prob wont buy it again. I usually drink premier protein drinks already made if I'm busy and dont eat as much during the day, but I bought a vegan protein powder so we'll see how that is. I hate that so many options are vanilla or chocolate cause I dont care for either. It's why I like the premier ones cause they have more flavors, but I'm trying to be more plant based.

i've never purposefully done a pre-workout meal / drink. i once went to the gym too quickly after eating (like, 30 mins? 45?) and it totally sucked. granted, it was probably the wrong thing to eat before running / the gym, but it's kind of haunted me from trying anything and then immediately going to the gym so i usually wait an hour or so after eating before going.

after workout snacks / drinks are my jam.

also, having just returned from the gym i have learned over the last week or so that there are few things greater than feeling the difference in your abilities. remembering how difficult it was to do a set of 25# arm thingamajigs and now being able to do like 50# with moderate ease (and 25# with no resistance) is so, so awesome.

I usually eat before I go cause I get migraines if i dont time my meals right. Plus it gives a buffer of time cause its crowded af right after work so I go home and eat dinner and chill and then go. But I still never have any energy so idk lol I feel like I've always just been completely devoid of energy and no amount of pre workout anything or dietary changes will fix it womp womp. I can usually push thru for strength and weight stuff but it makes cardio a drag.

I’m kind of the same as far as energy. Unless I limit my sleep. Like, I LOVE sleeping but if I get more than 7 hours a night, I’m totally out of it and in a funk all day. Most days I try to sleep no more than 5 hours at a time (always up for an after work nap and weekend nap). Sleeping only 5 has helped a lot with my energy and mood.

    My schedule is:

    Get up at 6
    Work 8-5
    Lazy as shit 5-6:30
    Errands and whatever 6:30-7:30
    Eat 7:30-8ish
    Netflix or reading 8-9:30
    Gym 9:30-12 am
    Sleep 12:30/1ish-6

This has worked out very well for me so far because a) I don’t have energy after work b) I hate a crowded gym and c) doesn’t interfere with plans and stuff

I think my downfall is that I have been so busy during the day that I only have time to catch up on the internet and news at night and I stay up too late reading it, like I feel I have to catch up before I go to sleep and I need to stop.

Jealous you have a gym that stays open late! I think we have a 24 hr fitness but my gym closes at 10pm weekdays and 9pm weekends and also opens late on weekends which sucks for scheduling it in sometimes

    C4 Pre Workout | Cellucor

I was taking that for a while before lifting. Yes, you get the skin tingles and the acute alertness but I found it mostly just made me sweat a TON more without the benefit of prolonged energy for exercise.

If anyone in this thread is on a low carb diet or keto and has a hard time hitting their protein numbers like me I'd highly recommend Isopure powder. Its zero carbs, 25g of protein per serving, and it actually tastes really good (I have the vanilla and flavorless). I've started adding the vanilla to my coffee every morning and its delicious. And the flavorless really comes in handy if I'm short on my protein intake. I wouldn't say its 100% 'flavorless' but the taste is so minimal I was able to drink it by itself in a glass of water like nothing. If you add it to a smoothie or just some milk/almond milk/soy milk you wouldn't even notice it outside of a slight difference in viscosity.

i use optimum nutrition pre-workout powder, i take six ounces of that about 15-20 minutes before my work out. i like it because it actually doesn't give me the tingles all that much like C4 did when i used it, but i definitely feel more aware and focused when im lifting still.

I just looked and I have the C4 stuff I guess. I dont rly notice any difference taking it about half an hour before my workout. But I'm kinda glad it doesnt cause I feel like the tingles would freak me out haha.

How does that one u use taste?

Yeah pre workout affects everyone differently! I would take C4 Sport and honestly didn’t feel anything. But if I took C4 regular then that’s when I would get some tingles. I didn’t mind C4 I just figured since I switched up my regime I would switch up my supplements also. The kind I take now is fruit punch and actually doesn’t taste half bad. A lot of the time (I think anyways) the flavors don’t actually taste how they should, but it holds truth to the name.

I feel like a lot of supplements for protein have so many carbs. I usually try to make sure there's not a ton of sugar but never paid attn to carbs until recently. I'm never gonna cut them out completely cause I'd prob waste away lol and moderation etc etc but I would like to lower my consumption, but I swear so many vegetarian recipes are like let's replace the meat WITH CARBS!

How do you get to sleep so quickly it seems?? And then wake up early? I have trouble falling asleep and waking up. I don’t get off work until 10pm-12am depending on circumstances and then I go home and feel really tired in the morning.

the tingly sensation is probably from the beta-alanine in the powder. some people feel that more than others. Pre-workouts are usually full of caffeine, beta-alanine (which is one of the few scientifically proven effective workout supplements), and filler. You are better off just buying straight beta-alanine, and mixing it with caffeine/coffee. I've done that in the past when i did a more body-building style of lifting because it aids in hypertrophy, but now that i do more powerlifting, ive quit taking it. I've heard some people swear by citrulline malate as well because it supposedly helps with your pump, but i havent tried it.

I’ve always been able to fall asleep at the drop of a hat (whatever that phrase means). I could be full of energy or tired as shit as soon as I lay down I could be out in a few minutes tops. So I can’t provide any useful help there.

I’m also not good at waking up but once I’m physically standing then I’m fine and my tiredness goes away. For me the key is not waking up and remaining in bed. If I wake up and putz around on my phone or look at the wall, then I’m going back to bed. Gotta get up ASAP for me to stick to my schedule.

My cellulite and stretch marks dont bother me at all I guess cause I've always had them at any weight and they're in areas I cant rly see anyway unless i look in the mirror, but i wish i could be so accepting of other parts about myself!

Haven't gone to the gym all week cause this hotel makes u ask for a key to the fitness center instead of just using ur room key and for some reason that's rly throwing me off with my anxiety. But hopefully i can go fri, sat, sun to at least get 3x this week

On day 13 of 30 of very low carb, no sugar, no alcohol, and no dairy. Had a cheat day this weekend and I had two pitchers of mimosas, 3 donuts, a piece of cake, half a bag of Doritos, and a whole pizza. Felt absolutely awful afterwards lol. But besides that day, I’ve been feeling pretty good. Been working out every day. Hopefully I can stick with it.

Edit: I’m feeling much better overall, once I hit day 30 I just plan in introducing stuff like quinoa and eggs back into my diet

dumb question but what are eggs counted as? dairy? i generally count eggs as one of the healthiest options you can have.

as for cheat days i had one myself on Sunday. not nearly to your extent, but i felt AWFUL as well and still feel like i'm recovering a bit. it's amazing how quickly your body gets used to not having so much sugar and shit in it.

Dairy yeah. I’m not even saying they are bad for you (though some people argue they are), I’m just making a personal choice to keep my diet incredibly simple for a month.

And yeah I’m definitely still recovering. I noticed that by day 10 my heart burn had pretty much gone away completely but after my chest day I can feel it creeping back a bit.

    gotcha.

what have you been having for breakfast?

i'm so sick of eggs, but it's all i really can find that is filling and beneficial for what i try to stay in line with for numbers. i used to do shakes but they were never very filling and depending what you put in them you're suddenly loaded up with like 60 grams of sugar before 8 am!
