I'm straight up addicted to eating out which has sucked because I'm not my ideal weight and it hurts my wallet
I've fallen out of exercising. I need to start back but work has been so hard I wanna cry when I get home instead of do anything productive
I'm maintaining at around 187. It's at a point where I want to start gaining muscle, because I'm happy with my fat loss. It scares the hell out of me, though. I've seen going up on the scale as "bad" for so long that I'm low key getting anxiety thinking about gaining.
Any tips on going to working out twice a day, five days a week? I’m also at that weird place where I think I need to go down an underwear size which is a weird thing I have never thought about before.
i guess just make sure you are giving yourself adequate recovery time, i.e. lots of sleep, and are also complimenting that with an appropriate diet
I just discovered my gym has a landmine and my new favorite core & ab exercise is the landmine rotations also you can do leg, back, and arm work with it too. The 5 Essential Landmine Exercises
How often do you guys spend on lifting? When I go to the gym I typically do 30 min lifting and 30 minutes cardio. I'm kind of at a standstill as far as seeing muscle improvements, just wondering if I should switch to 40/20 instead.
yeah about 45 minutes of weightlifting. What do you mean you're at a standstill? Like you're plateauing as far as increasing weight or what?
Yeah, like I went from having skinny man arms, to seeing some definition, but don't seem to be bulking up anymore. I typically do 8 reps, 3 times with 1 minute in between, per exercise.
where you can, try increasing your weight each week by 5lb (mostly barbell and cable machine exercises). So if you're benching 135, next week try adding 2.5lb on each side. For exercises like dumbbells, try increasing your reps and sets. So instead of 3x8, try 4x8 or 4x10. You can also try mixing up your exercises for each muscle group. If you're doing dumbbell curls for biceps, switch to one arm preacher curls and see if that makes a difference. also increase your protein intake by a lot
Thanks man, going to take all that into consideration. I started protein shakes because I can only eat so much chicken.
Aaaaaand the cycle continues. I have been absolutely overwhelmed by school and have abandoned the gym and resorted to stress eating. This happens every. god. damn. semester. I have legitimately packed some pounds on and for maybe the first time in my life I see some very noticeable weight gain. This is depressing.
While I’ve ran a handful of events in the past 4 years (2 halfs, a 5k, 2 overnight RAGNAR relay races), I just signed up for the 2018 Chicago Marathon lottery because I wanted to have a goal that would challenge the shit out of me and keep my running and working out in check. I’ve gained 30 pounds since my dad passed 2 years ago due to grief/depression/eating my feelings. If I get chosen on 12/12, it’ll be game the fuck on.
First, I'm sorry to hear about your dad. But about the race, you don't want to try a half marathon first? I just did my first half and had a lot more fun than I thought I would.
Thank you for the kind words. I am just trying to adjust my body to the gain that has occurred. I’ve done 2 half’s in the past 4 years and at least some sort of race every year. In March I did the Dead 2 Red in Jordan, which is a 150 mile relay race from the Dead Sea to the Red Sea and ran 20 miles of it. My running buddy who invited me to Jordan said that was harder than running any marathon. I feel confident but it will be a HUGE challenge.
I've been doing the whole "intermittent fasting" thing for some time now and it helped me maintain or lose weight. What I do is fast for 14-16 hours a day, almost every day. Ideally, I stop eating by 8pm, and then begin eating the next day around 10am after my first class. I lost a few pounds by fasting and cutting calories (not by much) over the summer at my internship. Now that I am back at school its harder to resist all the awesome food but I find that if I overeat a bit but still fast for ~16 hours I can still maintain my weight. Read about it! I personally found it useful.
Congrats to all of you who have lost weight or toned up! I can't motivate myself to do anything... except eat chocolate.
Ive been quite interested in IF myself. I think i unintentionally do it a lot but i want to be safe about it
