I hold my phone while I run because I can't get the couch to 5k app to play the sounds so I have to feel it buzz. Not the best arrangement
Managed to get 10,000+ steps for the past 4 days. Aiming for the full week. I'm so sedentary usually that it's embarrassing.
I start that very soon. I took a peek to what was ahead and about quit on the spot. We'll see how day 1 goes.
My only gripe about the couch potato app is running then stopping and walking does not work for me. I have to do one or the other. Prob why I quit after like a month.
It was fucking HARD. Going from 9 minutes of total running to 16 in a week is bananas. But it hasn't fucking beaten me yet. Not intending to start now.
I saw an old picture of myself for the first time in forever today and holy shit am I so fired up! I am not fucking around. I was legitimately terrified of turning 30 and now that shit is going to be my fucking victory lap.
What shoes does everyone wear when they run? I've been researching shoes specific for flat feet, over pronation and I've seen the Nike Zoom Structure come up often. I haven't worn Nike in years, though. I currently wear Brooks Adrenaline but after 2 years they don't offer much support anymore. Not sure if they are the true cause to my shin splints or the treadmill but I'm due for new shoes.
I wore Asics (the gel excite 2, regular width) years ago and loved them. They lasted about 4 years and once I replaced them I could never find something equally great. Sadly I've never been able to find them again. I'd probably try for the wider ones now. Asics are expensive but I'd be willing to spend the money on a quality shoe. I'm just worried about committing the money and not being able to return them after a few wears if they don't work out.
Week 4, Day 1 in the books. You weren't kidding that was tough. But I feel so much more confident moving forward knowing I can bang that out.
I need to stop telling myself I'll exercise at night cause I never do. Not even out of laziness but I get busy and get tied up in things and don't have time. Need to get it over with in the AM
Have you been fitted before or just gone off your own research? I've known people with flat feet to use inserts in their shoes. Over probation, shoes with motion control/stability- I really like asics and saucony. Not so much brooks. Also you shouldn't be keeping shoes for 2 years, that's probably why you have "shin splits" lol (not trying to poke fun, it's something heard a lot with people claiming they have shin splints when they don't and in most cases they need new/different shoes)
I was fitted when I bought the Brooks I currently have but this time around I'm doing more of my own research. I've never used inserts but may try some over the counter options but I don't think I'm at the point where I need orthotics.
I still recommend asics or saucony! I've used brooks before and when I switched I could never go back to brooks. They didn't feel the same. Also make sure you're wearing the proper size. I was wearing the wrong size for years and didn't realize it until I decided to try a size bigger and the pain I had in my toe went away. Also feels a lot better on my joints. I haven't came across Nike shoes that work for my foot strike, usually I'm pretty limited to brooks, saucony and asics
For cardio, I will mix in rowing instead of running and I really enjoy that. I don't use the eliptical at all. Just not a fan of it.
I've been doing it for close to a year and I really like it, part of it is my instructor though anytime there's a substitute I'm upset The hard part is I don't really sweat doing it so it's harder to tell if it's working
Was at a reservation with really poorly labeled trails and ended up lost in the woods today. Am now scraped and unhappy and hate everything.. Building some beer into my calorie count for sure
