Thanks to you lovely people, I've jumped on the C25K train. I'm currently on Week 2, Day 3. Since I started lifting weights, I've been terrible at getting in my cardio. This program is actually pretty great to work in so now I make sure I get whichever day I'm on done before I hit any weights.

I tweaked my neck something fierce today and
Can you elaborate on the front and back thing? I am as neophyte as you can get.

Work your chest/shoulders the same day as your hamstrings/glutes/calves. Then when you work your back do your quads.

That helps thanks. Where do you work arms or abs into that, out of curiosity?

\o/ reached my halfway point today! 142.8lb lost, 142.2lb to go! Now that I'm in the lower 300s, I'm definitely considering picking up C25K and giving that a shot. Definitely thinking I need some new shoes first, though. My current ones slide around when I walk or hike. :/ Anyone know of any good deals right now? I'm sorta partial to New Balance, but I have huge feet (11-12 women's, depending on brand/fit).

  7. It's probably more expensive, but it would be worth it to go to a running store and get fitted so you get the right shoe. I just started C25K myself and my current sneakers just kill my feet, so I'm going to try out getting fitted and what not.

I was thinking I might have to do that. The only concern I have with that is that I'm thinking my feet might shrink a bit still (fluid retention and such), but I guess time will only tell for that one. Thanks!

Joined a cheap gym literally a one-minute walk from my house, so I can cancel the $50/month membership I haven't used in almost two years. Was getting into really good shape back then, and then got sick/had a couple injuries, plus started going through a lot of personal stuff, moved further from my gym, etc., and I just stopped caring. It sucks looking back and knowing I was a couple months removed from hitting my goal whereas now it'll take me a year. Makes it hard to get going again.

Maybe I'll try that stomach drain

  10. I recommend going to a running store if you're looking at running shoes. They'll help you find the best fit. Plus there are different types of shoes i.e. Ones with support for hyperpronation and those who don't hyperpronate. You'd also want to get a half size-size larger than what you'd wear in "normal" shoes. You don't want your toe to hit the top of the shoe. They need a little room. I normally would wear an 8 but my runnin shoes are 9. It feels weird at first but you get use to it and it's so much better for your feet!

Not sure about your budget/what you're willing to spend on shoes is, but if you want good shoes they're gonna be bit costly. You can try running warehouse website and see what they got as sales. But I still recommend to get fitted if it's something you're interested in. My fav brands are asics and saucony.

Fell free to message me if you have any questions. Hope this helped a little :)

Biceps always go with back and triceps always go with chest/shoulders. I would do abs with back and quads on that two do rotation. The thing with abs is that the best way to trigger them is big full body movements versus isolation, ie do deadlifts instead of crunches. Planks trigger full body, so if you're looking for a more isolation series for abs, planks planks planks. Fair warning: they suck.

Thank you! I didn't know they were supposed to be a bit larger - that's helpful. I guess I'll be getting fitted and I'll go from there!

  13. No problem! Once you're fitted and know your size/what brands you like the most, it's easier to buy online imo (if you like buying online). Running stores usually let you walk/jog around the shoes a bit to see how you like the feel. If there's a Fleet Feet Sports near you, I recommend them.

Yep, @neptune is definitely right about getting a 1/2 size bigger than normal. Feet swell after a certain amount of exercise so if walking/running is a big proponent of your exercise, I'd definitely do what others have said and invest in going to a quality store to speak with knowledgeable folks so no mistakes are made or a purchase regretted.

  17. So this is only day 3 of Whole 30 for me and man do I feel like garbage. The timeline they use is accurate so far. I am definitely in the "hangover" phase.

  18. Started weightlifting again about two weeks ago and I have been so hungry all the time now. I'm worried I'm going to start adding fat instead of muscle

This is the worst, because it's hard to tell if it's fat or muscle when getting on the scale. I was trying to lose weight so I worked out (lots of cardio, some weights), and I felt like I lost some belly, but the scale pretty much stayed the same.

I lost those lbs I gained. I don't know what the deal was with that. I checked the batteries in my scale and they are brand new.

Weight is weird. My dad has a scale and I weight myself on it sometimes and there's always a few pounds difference each time even tho I haven't changed anything. That's why now I just try to eat healthier, make attempts at being active lol, and as long as I fit into my pants I'm good. Numbers are evil I've learned from geometry, statistics, and scales

Your weight can and will fluctuate several pounds throughout the day due to water retention. Water retention is one of the trickiest parts of monitoring weight loss, especially if you weigh yourself daily.

can be water weight. could be other factors. (I think you're a woman, so even your menstrual cycle is a factor.)

My recommendation is to also use a measuring tape, not just a scale.

yeah I figured. I usually just go with the lightest weight lol. I'm not really trying to lose so much as tone up and stop being so sedentary so I shouldn't be looking at a scale anyway
