    I'd really like to get back into deadlifting but twice when I incorporated them into my set my lower back would be sore about a month into it. The risk/reward ratio is not good.

    Have you tried using a lifting belt for stability at heavier weights?

    Yeah this is unsolicited @oakhurst but in my experience most people get a lot of benefit out of deadlifts and their variations, but there's an unnecessary amount of fearmongering about them among lifters and too few people are willing to figure out what the issue is/explore variations that work. If you want to offer more info about what happens when you deadlift I'd be happy to throw my two cents' of advice in there.

    Same. I coach at my gym with a focus on these heavy lifts
