Yeah I also enjoy sore legs in a weird way, it's like I know I worked hard because of the pain lol. Gonna do some squats and deadlifts tomorrow, I CANNOT go too hard or else I will be entirely too sore. I love veggies thankfully, and I am in my own apartment this month for the first time ever so I have an entire kitchen to myself with plenty of counter space. I need to get used to cooking again, at the moment i'm living off of grilled chicken breast strips from traders joes lol
literally anything > conditioning day I don’t really do bodypart splits but anything that hits the delts and quads makes me feel great
hitting legs is fine, but my quads in particular are like daggers after; and I'm on my feet and often going up and down stairs at my job, so it's not the most ideal aftermath.
My gym just got a new stairmaster. Some heavy low bar squats + spamming the leg extension/curl machines and finishing with the stairs has my entire lower half feeling like jello by the end of my leg day. Probably the toughest day for me in my split. Legs feel like a chore some weeks. Upper push days are my favorite. DB incline bench with a deep stretch at the bottom and a ton of tricep work on the cable crossover feels so satisfying for me.
Down 11.5 lbs the past month, a bit more of a focus on a cardio over lifting and stricter calorie tracking is doing wonders for me
I left a message with a nutritionist and of course they called me back during the busiest portion of my day where I couldn't answer, but I'm intrigued by what they can do, if anything, on my lil health journey I think maybe I am in the spot where I'm gaining muscle? Because I do legitimately feel like I look better in some of my clothes, but my weight is at the highest it's ever been. It was only ever this high during peak covid when gyms closed and all there was to do was sit around at home and eat. But even looking at pics from that time, my face looked a lot fuller then vs me now at the same weight. But it's also hard to tell cause I think I have some body dysmorphia. Then again yesterday my jeans literally ripped open while I was wearing them lol so who knows
Getting more sessions in now so I can have some "wriggle room" come what Christmas. We'll see how it goes!
made it to the top of mission peak (CA people know). Quite tough. I’m not in shape nor am I an avid hiker (yet)
Sup fam, Have been making the gym pretty regularly but found myself getting bored and I know where that leads to so I said fuck it and rejoined the Crossfit that is basically a quarter of a mile from my house, can't be much more convenient than that. I love the feeling an intense cardio cross-training workout gives me and I am just unable to recreate it on my own really so this seems like my best bet for now. I just did a trial for 6 weeks to see how I like it, no commitments or anything. Feeling good about it though, my cardio has been noticeably excellent compared to what it used to be. Also, I have no one to impress so i'm going to make sure to tow the line of pushing my limits, i've done crossfit for years though so i'm very content with that mindset. Ego left about that shit a long time ago.
I've had a few sessions with a nutritionist and idk so far it's nothing I haven't learned from the internet. Not that I thought they'd have some secret well of knowledge but I guess I expected something more. The accountability is nice tho
Decided within the year I want to do my first marathon. About 8 years ago was the last time I trained running for the half marathon I did. Gonna do a 5k this month, then 10k in 2 months, half in May-ish, then hopefully full marathon in October.
One of my goals with the nutritionist is to drink more water and omg. It's easier than I thought to drink more during the day, but my job is NOT conducive to having to pee. Often I'm driving by myself with back to back appts or with a small child. And it's not like they're my kid where they can be in the stall with me. Today I had no time between 11am-4:45pm to use the restroom and I had to go bad. At first I thought I could make it to my office but realized there was no way. I was in a work car and quickly pulled over to an indoor food cart pod thinking they'd have a bathroom but I guess I pulled into a residential lot only for tenants so then I backed up and made another turn but it was a dead end. I had to go so bad I honestly couldn't think straight or logically about where to go. I came to terms with the fact I was going to pee my pants because I literally couldn't hold it any longer, but I was in a populated area. I was fully accepting I'd have to get out of the car, pee my pants, then drive with my cardigan under me to try not to get anything on the seat. Well I pulled into a residential parking spot and what do I see but a random porta potty. I've never ran into one of those things so fast. Didn't even care about not putting toilet paper down on the seat first. When I exited I saw the business name was "Willy make it?" Which I thought was funny lol Anyway, health goals come at a cost!!!
Lil update Joined the Crossfit near me a month ago ( I had gone there 3 years ago for a little bit) and it has been the best decision I have made in quite some time. This is definitely the best shape I have ever been in while participating in Crossfit so I have noticed a drastic difference in the experience compared to the past times i have joined. Going about 5 times a week and being careful of my choices in weight and scaling back (which they always encourage). The community is really awesome, as is the owner so yeah, I really fucking happy I made the decision to join. I also caught them during a black friday deal where I get a nice discount for unlimited monthly classes, $150 a month, thats CHEAP for Crossfit standards lol. Anyways, weight is still hovering around the same, and that's on me, nutrition has been half-assed. I'm going to commit to cleaner eating even harder now though, its worth it if I am going to do this intense exercise 5 days a week.
I take back my indifference about seeing a nutritionist! She helped me come up with some meal ideas. My goals are more protein, veggies, and things I can make quick and less fast food Today I prepped stuff that didn't take long but now I have lunches for every day this week I'm actually looking forward to. I made wraps with teriyaki tofu and veggies for 3 of the days, and then veggies and cheese quesadilla type things for the other 2 days, then with some carrots and hummus, string cheese, and other things on the side. I've always hated the idea of meal prepping I see people do where they take like an entire Sunday to make food. Sounds miserable and I don't wanna spend my day off like that. So it felt nice to meal prep those things pretty quick! My bf wanted to order pizza for dinner and I even convinced him to make a quick dinner with stuff he already had, so yay!! Glad I stuck it out for more sessions
Started a new regimen of upper/lower where bicep and tricep are also on lower day. So it’s like I’m doing a trunk/limbs split. Really like it so far, also the pelotons at my new gym are incredible for maximizing rest days into active recovery
Also my god I’m obsessed w barebells bars for a quick protein pick me up. Worth keeping in mind @Kiana if an option for you
They aren't vegetarian except there is a plant based one which isn't bad. I think I'm gonna have to hop back on the protein drink wagon. I usually do fairlife but I hate using so much plastic so I may switch idk idk
I just want a basic bathroom scale that I don't need an app to use and that works. I bought a fancy smart scale and it sucks and I've had to replace the batteries multiple times despite not using it all that often?? And it needs to be recalibrated cause it still keeps adding 20lbs. I just want one of those beasts that we all had in the bathroom growing up that worked just fine for decades.
Hit a big bench goal today, 315x10. Been chasing that for a while. Now to focus on squats while shedding some bodyfat for a while.
Been eating a little better and I’ve been doing something active each day so far this year. Trying to slowly get strong enough again to go bouldering. Small steps but feels nice. Hoping I can make it stick
Ran my first marathon today!!! 3:55! It was brutal though, the course was 8 loops and right by the water, so the wind was strong. It was 31 degrees when we started but luckily warmed to 40, but the feels like was in the 20s. Feeling very happy with a sub-4 for my first
what is everyone's favorite ab workout?? i've been switching up my approach to finally start progressively overloading my abs, shifting away from the '5 min ab circuit' mentality. feels insanely good to attack my core in a way that doesn't automatically involve cardio, i'm surprised it took me this long to figure that out... Is there something more effective than the cable crunch that i'm not aware of? i cycle through that, machine crunch, leg raises, and weighted decline sit-ups
