Been really frustrated with seemingly putting on 10lbs over the last month but after an almost 90 minutes gym session of exclusively lifting (I did cardio in the morning), I was really happy that my delts felt so much bigger than I expected. So maybe it's some muscle gain (but also definitely some fat because I was going sicko mode on food for a week there)
Not to dismiss your frustrations but I think even just 15 minutes of running a day is a lot more than I see most people managing. I bought a Fitbit awhile ago and I have no idea exactly how reliable they are for tracking workout intensity.
I feel weirdly like i always gain weight in the summer, despite being pretty active. my guess is it might be because my wife is off in the summers (teacher) and so we are going out and eating at restaurants more often.
NGL I feel like I'm reasonably active and don't eat terribly but my weight continues fluctuating within this 5lb window and doesn't stay down. I just want my pants to fit better rn. They're so uncomfy. But I don't want to take all the joy out of my life aka good food. I'm trying to tell myself to focus on health and not appearance. I may be in a bit of a workout rut. My local rock climbing gym has a Groupon to try it out, and I've been considering the rowing machine. Watch out, things may be getting wild out here
Update: did rowing machine for 15 minutes. That was like two hours ago and I can already feel my back is gonna be sore. I am sad cause the rowing machine at my old gym had games like a cute one where you had to row to move your fishie up and down to avoid the sharks. But it was a good workout! I'd be so much more in shape if every week had 3 day weekends
Forgot how annoying Covid is when it comes to recovery for running, I’m about two weeks from initially having it and I’m FINALLY feeling normal and back to my cardio routine without being winded af within a half mile
Started wearing Invisalign back in July and it’s limited how much I eat throughout the day. I was eating about 2200 cals a day with about 170 g of protein for the gym. I’ve had to cut back due to not being able to eat as much and therefore have done more cardio the past couple months than heavy lifting. I was doing 225 on bench before Invisalign, then went to Japan for a couple weeks, so took about a month a half break of no bench…went last week and was struggling to do 3 sets of 185 on bench. Gotta work my way back again
Just a matter of familiarity though, which is good - very unlikely to be any actual muscle loss or anything. You got this!
I've been using the weight machine things at the gym lately instead of just using dumbbells and omg. I used the calf machine and they hurt soooo bad
First week back to lifting 4x a week after taking two months off leading in my marathon and everything hurts and I think I’m dying
My cardio days have been getting repetitive. Stair climbers, cycling, incline treadmill, etc. so I decided to start taking a cardio/strengthening class. Basically just a 45 minute straight circuit with almost no stoppage time. I felt like I was dying, but in a good way.
Anything that has you stringing together movements will absolutely kill the heart and lungs haha. I do a lot of barbell and kettlebell complexes for conditioning, and it's amazing how hard they hit in relatively little time with relatively little weight.
Counting calories again and idk why I'm so hungry every day. I even increased my daily intake from when I counted calories a few years back, since I'm weightlifting more. My deficit is about 500 Cal which I don't think is crazy but I'm so hungry this time around. I've even hit my protein goal each day which is 100g which for me as a vegetarian is pretty dang high. But these hunger feelings are def not sustainable so I'm gonna have to rethink my goals. I'm thinking about looking into a nutritionist covered by insurance. Or a dietician? I forget which one has more qualifications. I wanna feel better about myself outwardly but also feel good and healthy and strong and this current sitch is not the move.
Dietitians are more formally educated, you have to get your masters and be licensed to become a registered dietitian. Nutritionists can vary in education and certifications. It can be iffy what your insurance covers, but worth checking out!
I haven’t had a normal workout in about a week. Idk what happened but about 2 weeks ago I started to get muscle spasms on my chest once or twice a day. I rested some and went back to the gym the next week. I had chest day and half way through I felt like I was going to pass out. I haven’t worked out since and have only done cardio. Now my chest is sore to the touch and my muscle spasms have been every hour. Not sure if I messed up my chest and it’s my body telling me to take a break or what. Has this happened to anyone else in here before?
If you felt dizzy or like you were going to pass out with chest pain, I would get that checked out ASAP just to be sure. Have you had Covid in the last 6-12 months? I’ve been dealing with this too for the last 5-6 months after I got Covid in July. When I exercise I get a sharp, quick intense stabbing feeling near my sternum and then it goes away. Then the next day or two the entire area from my sternum to my spine is sore. I recently got a cardiologist referral and they believe it’s costochondritis caused by long Covid because I also have been having heart palpitations and dyspnea as well. I did the treadmill stress test and that came back fine and have an echocardiogram in a few weeks just to be sure, but that’s what they said is the likely cause of it and it’s just something that goes away on its own. Sometimes it’s a few weeks and sometimes in months or longer.
I had covid in the summer of 2022 but that’s the only time. I’m going to skip the gym for a week and if it doesn’t improve then I’ll set up an appointment with a cardiologist
I was doing well with getting my 10k daily steps and exercising but then had a family emergency and it's been so hard to be motivated. I'm really hoping to change that starting today and get back to it. It's not that I haven't been exercising at all, but I'm not putting in as much effort and not as often. I'm trying to be kind to myself because I have stressful family circumstances happening, but it's frustrating when I was on such a good upswing. I feel like I'm so all or nothing when it comes to exercise even tho I know that some exercise is better than none.
I was in a somewhat bad car accident on Nov 6 and I haven’t done much but walk since then. Kinda lost all my motivation
It’s frustrating how quickly the body regresses and how long it takes to get back to where it was. I mainly ride the peloton but didn’t really do much in November and December and being two weeks into January I’m still not back at the level I was in October.
