  1. It's crazy how quickly you regress when you don't workout for a month.

I’ve had a foot issue for two weeks keep me from running and I’m supposed to avoid running for another two weeks at least and I could tell after the first week that I was regressing just in general let alone what it will feel like to run again after a few weeks off after running 5-6 days a week for 3 straight years. Not looking forward to getting readjusted and feeling like I’ve never run before once I can get started again.

Bodies are amazing things yet also amazingly dumb things with bad memories

Lost two pounds last week, trying for two more this week. I've reached that miraculous brief annual happening where I don't despise running

I thought I did a fairly mild new workout yesterday but I woke up SO sore. Can't remember the last time I was this sore. My back and triceps are so sore it hurts to move. Clearly I need to work those muscles more but omg. Taking a rest day today and am hoping I can at least do active resting walking on the treadmill tomorrow. They asked me to be on call for work tonight and I was like sorry bro I'm gonna be like taking a bath and rubbing icy hot all over myself after work idek

set a strava goal to run 1000 miles this year and I have 20 to go so it's in the bag, feeling proud of myself! I also got into the NYC half (via lottery) which I'm pumped for

Terrible, haha. A (sub)tropical storm came through the day before and the day of it was hot, humid, and sunny. The heat and sun also made it so the water soaked into the ground was evaporating making it even more humid. I did well for the first half, but broke down after that. I still finished, but well off my target time.

Oof, that's the worst. Sorry to hear it. Running in weather like that is terrible—you're being broiled from both sides, haha.

Yeah, it was not fun, but I'll be back at it and try again sooner rather than later!

I've sidelined myself for the past couple weeks after dealing with knee pain that came on during a 10K casual weekend run. A little over 2 weeks later and it's feeling much better. Going to take another week and a half or so and then start things up again, but have had no issues with walking, biking, the elliptical, or strength training.

I'm so amazed by people who have the discipline to do very regimented and planned/precise workouts. I cannot. I go through phases of what exercises I enjoy. For a while I only wanted to do strength training and now I'm all about the treadmill which is hilarious because like 1.5 years ago jogging or running was the absolute last excercise I'd do. Back then I was all about the dance workouts and lately I haven't been much in the mood for them.

Glad to hear you're healing up! Low-impact training has always been a godsend when dealing with stuff like that.

For me it has very little to do with discipline, actually. It's just about wanting the results of training more than I want to not do it. Sometimes I enjoy training, sometimes it's miserable, but the rigor of an intelligently structured program is what helps me achieve my goals, so it's either do it or be disappointed, haha.

That's awesome! I feel like that is very disciplined tbh! That old "when motivation fails, discipline prevails" quote. Which is great. I'm more of a "the best excercise is one I'll do" kind of person. Whenever I tried to be strict about "today is leg day" or whatever but I didn't feel like doing leg day I just ended up not excercising at all because i didnt wanna do it and made excuses and stalled. Now I do whatever excercise I feel like that day. I try to kinda balance it out so I don't just completely neglect one muscle group or area, but I don't track it as closely as I used to. I'm v impressed when people can stick to a schedule!

I always have a structure for one main lift and one secondary lift a day, four days a week. For accessories im less strict. On bench days i always do rowa but ill change what kind of rows i do based on how im feeling that day. Might do dumbbell rows, maybe barbell rows, maybe seated cable rows etc.

Yeah, I get what you mean (and thanks!). I guess I just mean I try not to think of it even as a discipline thing—because it's not really a choice I have to make. I know what I want to achieve, I've selected a program to follow to accomplish it, and it's just a habit, not something that can be negotiated or even something I have to "stick to" through discipline. It just happens. Kind of takes the burden off exercising when I'm not enjoying it.

But that's just what works for me. I do really enjoy incorporating variety into exercise selection and programming in order to keep things interesting. And it's definitely true that doing something is better for you all around than doing nothing.

If I don't go into a workout with a plan of what I'm going to do then I'm going to waste time trying to figure that out and end up not doing much. My workout time is already limited to the time between when I wake up and when my kids wake up so I have to make it count!

I've been doing peloton app workouts a lot and choose them based on whether or not I like the playlist lol and keep some saved so I can narrow it down and not choose completely out of nowhere. I keep different kinds of the workouts saved that im interested in and choose from that based how I feel. So I guess I have somewhat of a plan going in but it's a bit vague and I change it if I don't want to do it once I get there.

I wish their treadmill song options were as strong as their cycling ones tho
