Idk if your health allows it, but imo walks are the best and easiest form of exercise and a great place to start. It's lower impact and even just increased walking makes a difference. Tbh Idk how people wake up early to exercise either. I usually go after work which can definitely make it hard cause it's like work, gym, shower, eat, sleep and feels like little time for a life. I wish I could get it out of the way early in the day! Cause after work some days I'm just too tired.

But yeah walking is great if you can. It's been rainy here lately so harder to go on walks but tbh even walking inside can work. My work building has three floors and sometimes I will just make a loop up and down the stairs. Or even just parking a little farther away. Or lately I've been printing stuff at the printer that's not closest to me and makes me walk a bit more.

Just be kind to yourself. Any lil bit of difference is still a positive change

Very proud of myself. Very exhausting day and wanted to just come home, eat a Snickers bar or something and go to bed and instead I’m sticking with my eating plan to go with my marathon training plan so I have my tuna sammich, green peas and some pretzels for an actual dinner.

trying to have some greens / veggies for every meal and I’ve been consistent with that for about 5 days now.

most frustrating part is I know how good I feel when I eat healthier and work out but goddamn it’s still so frighteningly tempting to just say fuck it literally every day lol

I think it’s normal for 99% of the population to be too hard on ourselves and we should all try to celebrate small victories more than we do.

did a trail run yesterday and when I was done I was a little disappointed / surprised by how winded I got on some of the hills and had to remind myself that 75% of it was very muddy so each step took more energy than normal and that’s probably why but I was still disgruntled. But when I got to my car there was someone else who just came back from one of the other trails and asked if I was trail running I said I was and what trail I did and he goes, “whoa! Holy shit that’s awesome! I got like half a mile in and had to turn back it was too muddy and hard to walk through, I couldn’t imagine running it. Kudos man!” and it felt really good to have someone appreciate and know what a struggle it was and call out that yeah, it was a victory simply for doing it in those conditions which I wouldn’t have done just on my own because I’m in my own head too much.

I'm so unmotivated to do anything when it's cold, including exercise. I've been slacking this week. I just want to hibernate until it's warmer

I almost always zone out on outside runs and don’t consider the public around me except for health reasons (Getting hit by a car at an intersection, for example) but when I run on cold days every once and awhile I think, “these people must think I’m insane” when cars pass and sometimes that oddly motivates me to keep going or at least makes me chuckle to myself.

Okay I exercised today. I didnt realize I can still hit my 5 day exercise goal if I exercise tomorrow and Saturday. I have no concept of time lol. Will probably just go on walks the next two days for active rest and I'm content with that. Meeting myself where I'm at! Hibernation mode for sure

thanks for this! I don’t do list with weights and finding videos that aren’t super gym bros using 65 pound dumbbells is a challenge so I always like using these types of videos.

Nitpick / lol for me though is I didn’t realize the first few sets were her showing what was next so I was like “why am I doing this for ten seconds and then again for 30? Why don’t they just set the timer at 40?” lmao

Lmao yeah and tbh sometimes the person in the video I watch will use heavier weights than I can but I do what I can do and try to make it a goal to work up to what they do. But I find sometimes they don't specify the weights they're using. Which is nice cause it makes me feel less competitive with them but also annoying cause I wanna be competitive with them lol. I like heather Robertsons videos but sometimes I have to do modifications because she'll turn my arms into jello for 35 min and then add burpees or something at the very end and I'm like yeah sis not today!

Madfit also has some reasonable weighted exercises and I like her cause she verbally walks you through how to do the exercise to make sure you're getting the most out of it, whereas Heather doesn't talk in the videos I've watched of her

yeah the burpees (or "half burpees") at the end of the first video (think that's what they were) pissed me off and i skipped them lol. i also forget that i should probably only do half the reps the first time i do any video because in the moment it won't feel so bad but then a few hours later or the next day that body part is toast, as i'm experiencing now.

the weights thing also bugged me. maybe it was in the description calling out to have different sizes but i only have one set so i had to make do and edit some of the sets of the first video. but these are nitpicks for what is a free video i can watch at home at my own pace so i can't complain too much!

My gym is so annoying sometimes. I've been wondering where all the dumbbells are the last two days and figured people were moving them and not putting them back, but then I saw nope the gym is using them to prop open doors. Probably at least 3 sets, including the weights I most commonly use.

I hate burpees or any exercise that makes me go from standing to on the floor back and forth regardless of what it is. I can do floor or standing but I hate combining them. Also I can't do full push ups very well so I'm all about that half push up modification life.

Have any of you ever done, or are you in the middle of, a run streak? Considering trying to start one for 2022. I figure if I can get through my birthday (~6 weeks) I'll be happy and should hopefully be able to continue through the rest of the year.

I have gym rant. It’s about pricing. In the UK there have been a lot of new gyms pop up. Basically the ones that say “£20 quid a month” and bank on people not going, but also not cancelling their sub as so cheap. Loads have popped up and they are actually impressive for the money.

I am at a member at a higher end gym. Mainly as they have indoor tennis courts and it’s a 10mins drive from my house and work. If it was just for gym use, then I’d be at the 20 quid gym all day long.

My gym just sneakily put the price of membership for us up 7%. Normally they email saying here’s your rate. In this one it was all cloak and dagger. It looked like a monthly news letter and had to click a link which didn’t say it was about pricing. So a lot of folk didn’t realise price was increasing. To me, it just seemed a bit shady.

I call myself a sleeping member. By that I mean I go in do my thing and boost with as little interaction with staff as possible. Never complain despite some issues. However, I think this has done it for me. Every time I leave the gym they put a notification for feedback on their app. I am filling it in now. I burst out laughing as literally 50% of treadmills were out action and much of the remainder sounded like they were on their last legs.

It’s annoying as from a tennis point of view they’ve got me. I have a social circle there to the point I’ve travelled to other side of world with one to meet a former member. To get indoor courts would add another 40minute to my commute, which as much as I’d love to move in protest, that extra 40mins would be pain in the arse.

Sorry just had to get this rant of my chest!

Ugh I relate to this!! I like my gym because they're local, have an indoor pool (rarely use it but it's fun to take my nephew to or to vary my workouts), they have fun classes included in the membership, sauna and steam room, and have a mixed demographic of users so I don't feel intimidated. There are also other cool things i dont use but appreciate that they have, like raquet ball courts and batting cages. They are the longest running gym we have. We only have two now, and the other is one of those cheap franchises open 24hrs. I like supporting local but my gym just irks me sometimes

Like right now not having full access to dumbbells because they're being used as doorstops?? And for a while the ceiling tiles near the stairmasters were leaking and they had buckets to catch the drips. Some of the treadmills are SO loud and squeaky I sometimes get mortified to get on one because it's so loud. So I'll keep a mental note of which ones are squeaky but then they'll finally fix them only for different ones to get loud and squeaky soon after so it always changes. One of the treadmills, the incline function doesn't work.

If they were some struggling gym I may get it, but they're not. Longest running gym in town and therefore almost everyone I know who goes to the gym goes to this one. Idk anything about running a gym so maybe idk what I'm talking about, but I don't understand how they can't just fix these things. Their money doesn't ever seem to go into new equipment. I don't think they've purchased any new equipment since I started going years ago. I think they just slap band aids on it instead

There’s in a gym near me that is owned by the company I work for because they essentially created the village all the businesses that are in there and I’ve heard they give company employees a “discount” on the membership so I called a few weeks ago to inquire because it has a pool and is super close to work.

the “discount” rate is $100 a month BUT you have to use your membership at least 15 times a month otherwise you get charged the full $150 a month rate. And there is a lame ass sign up fee of fucking $125 dollars for reasons.

there are legit people who have a membership there who will give their membership badge to another coworker who is actually going so they will scan them in so they don’t get the full charge each month. It’s completely insane but totally inline with what this weirdo company does. A few years ago some employees tried to get a smaller gym with classes open onsite that would be free to employees and the CEO crushed it because “we want employees using the facilities we have, we don’t want to take money away from that income stream”.

Exact same boat. I find it even more annoying that loads of cheaper but all brand new modern equipment gyms open near by that they still don’t have their shit together. My gym is a massive chain. You’d think they’d have a contract for someone to service/repair these machines?

My gym also seems to do a “how can we piss off our instructors and pay them less” phase every few years, which inevitably means everyone decent leaves apart form the few folk who have been there 20 years.

My gym (which is a private club/facility) just got sold to the city after 30+ years. My rates will actually likely go down, because it will no longer be a private facility, but it's going to suck because the traffic will increase a ton. The city already said they plan to increase memberships from 1,200 memberships to 3,500 memberships. They'll also probably give all sorts of discounts to city employees and senior citizens. Not saying that's wrong, but people signed up for this club for a reason (as there are all type of cheaper options all over the area). They're also closing it in April 'through the summer' for renovations, which is pissing all the current members off.
