Spent a month in a super hilly part of rural Georgia and running became nightmarishly hard thanks to the changes in elevation. Back in philly now and my first week of runs hAve all been 4+ miles with sub 7min mile times. Really thrilled about that. Feeling like I’m making some progress and really think my body is getting stronger
I recommend kendall tooles most recent 30 min 2000s ride. All pop punk music that us nerds liked back in high school.
I did a dance workout for the first time in a week and omg my butt is so sore. I do the Madfit videos on youtube and I'm gonna try out more from emkfit. I didn't like her pop punk dance video very much. I like to actually dance to the songs, not just do a workout to the songs playing in the background and that one was too much like that. But I previewed her other ones and they don't seem to be like that. Her videos don't look as high quality as Madfit's but she has more varied genres and artists that I'm excited to try, mostly her britney spears one, songs from my walkman, and the disney era one from early demi, selena, miley, aly and aj, etc!
Some days I fool myself into thinking I'm in shape and it takes like nothing to humble me. Today I did these videos back to back and was wrecked Fitbit says my cardio fitness level is poor-fair. Which is actually higher because previously it was just poor oop
It must be winter cause I tried one of these today. Fuck that, but mostly fuck me for being old/out of shape. My knees are cracking like crazy. I gotta stretch more or something
Honestly I do a dance workout almost every single day and it is still challenging and difficult every time. I have seen progress because I used to not be able to get through 15 minute dance routine without taking a break and now I can typically get through two but it still feels like my heart is pounding out of my chest and I've smoked for 80,000 years and I can't breathe and my Fitbit likes to point out that my cardio health is poor for women my age lol
My cardio is also shit due to smoking for over a decade at this point. Gotta quit and get some runs in again.
It’s funny how you can have super good cardio for some things but none for others. Running? I can do that for days easily, that’s what I love and have a base for. carrying groceries up two flights of stairs? At the end I act like I’ve been shot.
finally attained one of my big short-term goals and ran 10k. 46.5 minutes, feeling pretty accomplished today overall
for real though, i was not a runner or an exerciser at all a year ago. it's amazing what we're capable of when habits are formed. despite how good or how horrible it may feel to commit time and energy to physical activity, y'all are doing fucking fantastic and the results will keep coming. keep it up!
Does anyone here go to the gym right now? The one by me is nearly empty when I go around 6 am so im going to start up again but not sure if there is a certain mask that is easier for the gym. Anyone with a suggestion?
I go, it took me quite a few tries to find something that worked well. You'd think thinner would be best but when I ran, regular medical type masks got soaked and suffocating real fast. I wear a random decently sturdy cloth one that I got from my work. Maybe someone has a better suggestion than my kinda lazy trial and error though haha.
Somewhat expensive under armour project rock one that I have works pretty well. It’s kinda heavy but it’s pretty breathable and comfortable. The regular non project rock ones are a little less expensive
I wear a black medical mask cause I don't trust the cloth stuff and do no cardio. But I suffer when I squat cause that thang gets sweaty and my breathing gets heavy.
Took a few good spills while snowboarding last weekend and now I'm dealing with what I think is a sciatic nerve issue in my leg/back. Anyone have experience dealing with this? Would really appreciate anything that helps prevent nerve pain from shooting down my leg to my foot every time I move the wrong way...
I had sciatic issues and still do sometimes. Had to go to physical therapy because it was so painful. Even took a shot in the ass to relieve the pain. But the best thing you can do on your own is stretches. Maybe start with some of these or Google others 10 Piriformis Stretches To Get Rid Of Sciatica, Hip, And Lower Back Pain - Rocket City Chiropractic It will be painful at first but as you work the nerve it should get better over time. And obviously you can go see your doctor.
Definitely recommend diaphragmatic breathing and stretches. Physical therapy is great too if you can, but definitely do a daily at-home routine.
It's been a rough week so I have had very little motivation which is frustrating because I'm finally starting to lose weight and was doing really well and then all motivation just crashes
The snow is making it so hard to stay active! Even doing workout videos and stuff inside it doesn't really make up for how sedentary I am otherwise.
I bought a NordicTrack at the end of 2019 to use during the winter and it has paid off the last two weeks. I think the warmest it’s been the last two weeks is 0 and the lowest -45, so running outside would suck with that alone, but the roads around here are shit and never plowed well and just piled with miscellaneous little boulders of ice. Going to do a long run outside though, even though it’ll be -5. As great as the treadmill is, I need to get outside. I’m going nuts being trapped inside.
