Congrats on learning this insane language, reading HIL lyrics is a wonderful way to celebrate that haha
Yay thanks haha I don't know where to start. I've heard Thursday, Anberlin, then of course lots of hip hop artists, all have brillant lyrics. So yeah I have some work to do :)
Some artists that come to mind are mewithoutYou and Trophy scars. Very lyrical bands, that are also excellent.
Schuylar really draws influence from storytellers like Tom Waits and Bob Dylan, which is refreshing for He Is Legend's genre. I think that's why he stands out so much. He's such a great writer.
As a result of all of your hype, I am also listening to HIL for the first time. Doing a IAH, IHY, and HF listen through. Enjoying Hollywood so far
He Is Legend uphold their legendary influence on new song “Gold Dust”—listen - Features - Alternative Press Another new song! I'm trying to decide if I want to listen or wait until the album drops next week.
It's a good one for sure, let me tell ya. I will say that I think you might want to wait: it's track 7 so it's the second side opener, and since we've all already heard the first side opener, having one opener saved for the maiden voyage would be cool. Great track though, really exciting. I wonder how long this will be since these songs are relatively short for them.
I'm going to try to stay strong. Almost a week away! I really can't wait for this album. I still have all of their albums on pretty regular rotation after all these years and I can't wait to add some fresh blood to the mix. Edit: also, looks like the album will be 44 minutes according to iTunes. The songs seem to be a bit shorter than the last couple of records.
Yeah SOTP, IHY, and HF are like an hour, which is a lot of time to commit, though I think that works to their benefit. Would be cool for them to pull off a shorter, more condensed record.
Yeah, it seems like they went for shorter, more riff-driven tunes rather than the more jam-based songs of IHY and HF. I feel like we're getting the brevity and simplicity of IAH mixed with the maturity of the later albums.
IAH drags for me, I actually think that album feels a little too long even though it's probably only 40 minutes haha. just better songwriting after that, because IHY/SotP breeeeeeze by for me.
That's really interesting because IAH feels so short to me haha. I will say that all of their albums go by quickly to me though because I think they're really good at sequencing. Nothing on SOTP, IHY, and HF drags for me.
IAH frustrates me because there's so much going for it, but I guess them trying to conform to the post hardcore sound dilutes the good stuff for me. It feels forced or something. And sounds a little too smooth production-wise. That being said, opener and closer are just classic songs, cannot deny. Right now it might be my least favorite, but I need to listen more. There's a few parts that I think are grating, like the chorus of This Will Never Work, that hold it back for me.
Mannnnn I LOVE the chorus for This Will Never Work. So catchy. At certain point it's just personal preference though. However, I will say, every He Is Legend album has been a grower for me except for Heavy Fruit, I loved it right off the bat. Edit: and as a massive fan of The Shining, "The Carpet" is musical perfection to me.
