We reach for the longest shadow

Return to the Garden is THAT song for me. Pretty much perfect HIL.

Yeah it's great. Want to work up to a place where I can confidently rank the China White/Gardener series songs but it's tough

Gonna take a crack at ranking their closers but shitfuck is it difficult. I’m gonna include their EP because You Sound Like a White Boy rules.

    Mean Shadows
    (((louds
    Heavy Fruit
    The Garden
    Lord Slug
    Boogiewoman
You Sound Like a White Boy

Oof I need to revisit Heavy Fruit and the EP but i’m game to try my hand soon after. I barely remember the EP tbh

I’m already second guessing my choices… Lord Slug deserves higher placement.

okay, Suck Out The Poison hitting adult Taylor much better than high school Taylor lmao. Some absolute bangers on here.

Yesss this song has always been one of my favorites. It really captures the whole creepy fairytale vibe of that album to me.

This is shaky at best and I'm trying to avoid any recency bias after listening through most of their catalog the past couple days (also not including the EP at all cause I didn't get to it yet) but I'd probably land at

    (((louds
    Mean Shadow
    Lord Slug
    The Garden
    Heavy Fruit
    I am Hollywood
    Boogiewoman

IAH gets a small boost for a metric ton of nostalgia (at the time of its release that song used to blow my mind) and while I love White Bat, Boogiewoman never really clicked for me and I think the fade out/in at the end is fine but still takes me out a bit

i would move the iah t/t between mean shadow and lord slug then swap the garden with heavy fruit but otherwise yeah. theres definitely stuff on i am hollywood that hasnt stood the test of time for me but that song is not one of them, heard it as pre show music at a show not long ago and it still beats ass

The frantic red carpet/record me verse is still top notch stuff and incredibly cool to me

Sink Hole is just a hip shaker, man. The whole discography is revolting with how good it is. Throw a dart and I’m loving it. No one sounds like HIL.

Where’s their Tik-Tok blow up moment?

It's funny cause I was gonna ask about Time to Stain cause it has a surprising amount of listens on spotify compared to the rest of Heavy Fruit and I think only Something Witchy was a single?

I wanna say the singles were:
    1. Something Witchy
    2. This Will Never Work
    3. Miserable Company

I could definitely be wrong though.

That's probably right and tracks with the other amount of plays. Time to Stain is just way higher

Interestingly China White III’s play count is also a lot higher than the other songs on It Hates You.

  19. They should do more ballads/mellower stuff, they're so good at it

I maintain Martini is one of HIL's greatest songs if not the greatest. Does not get the love it deserves.

Definitely in my top 3 songs off the EP with Either They Decorated for Christmas... and You Sound Like a White Boy. Their bassist Matty has done a lot of playthroughs on his Instagram. He did Martini a while back:

There's also not enough discussions about one of the best covers ever. "Pour it out boys" + that riff still make my hair stand on end to this day

    Thanks for this.

Oof. This Wounded cover has done a number on me since I first heard it way back when. I have a friend I relate close to it. I return to it often.
