I cranked it until I got to the slow ones and then my drive was over haha. But it was VERY satisfying to hear Alley Cat like that the first time.
I wasn't able to snag a physical copy today so I don't have the lyrics in front of me, but this strikes me as some of Schuylar's best writing.
Got mine just now, I really like the cover so it's nice to have it big, though I wish it were a gatefold.
I think the only other contender is It Hates You, which i'm not sure it beats. Heavy Fruit's is good too, but the first two aren't.
Sounds so good on loud speakers played loudly. Particularly that palm muting part on Beaufort, when the low end comes through on quality speakers it sounds so much better than through headphones or in my car.
My favorite thing about this band is that you don't hear everything the songs have to offer right off the bat. It always takes several listens before the grooves start to sink in and the nuances of the songs become apparent. The songs sound like fairly straightforward bangers on first listen, but these guys are really smart and underrated composers. I can't wait for Few to really sink in.
Listening with lyrics, I caught that there's a In the Mouth of Madness name-drop in Alley Cat. Incredible.
I was wondering if there were any movie references in the lyrics. He did Evil Dead 2 in Mushroom River and The Shining in The Carpet. I wonder if there are any on It Hates You that I'm missing.
This is like the moody/bluesy equivalent of It Hates You. You could pretty much make a double album with it to showcase how versatile the band can be. It's much more what I expected from this band instead of Heavy Fruit, though I loved the latter as well. So good. I'm glad they're back better than ever.
funny you say that. on my third listen and I can't stop thinking about Alice In Chains. the guitarists went all sludgy riff wise, you can tell they are inspired by Cantrell, especially on The Vampyre.
It's hard for me t rank their albums with I am Hollywood being so different from the rest of their albums. But I think Few is better than Heavy Fruit. It Hates You is still their best work for sure.
it's their less unpredictable one i guess. much more straightforward, yet it still riffs pretty hard and it is freaking loud and heavy, while being so accessible. seriously, i don't get how they're still not on Mastodon levels of popularity. they should be playing huge venues at this point.
