I haven't had cable in a few years, but the prospect of having basic local channels has been on my mind for a while. Does anyone use an HD antenna? I've been seeing them on Kinja every so often, but I'm not sure how effective they are and what not.

Got a powered one off monoprice.com a few years back and it works perfectly still

I bought the cheapest one at Best Buy and gets all the local channels I want.

I just want to say depending on how close you live to the nearest city affects your reception. I used to live ~hour north of Nashville and using the antennas you could get at Walmart put me at the fringes for get the stations signal. For the super bowl one year my antenna had to be in the specific spot upstairs for me to get the game.
