Yeah she’ll be fine and the cycle will be fine. But that number is deeefinitely lower than I’d have guessed, if I had to. Maybe I’m just really out of touch with the way these numbers fall nowadays though. I will say that I was pretty shocked when her limited edition box set didn’t sell out relatively quickly (or ever, hah)
Considering it was slowly released in pieces I can't say I'm really surprised the album isn't doing super well? For instance, you may only like 1-2 songs on the third portion of the album, but you've already played Parts 1 & 2 non-stop for weeks/months now so the overall project isn't as new and exciting
I mean, I know someone who didn't even realize she was releasing an album. They thought the first EP was it. Didn't make a ton of sense to me, but there's that.
Hayley has talked a few times about not being concerned with material success or sales numbers. I think the rollout for After Laughter and now PFA demonstrates that. I think she’s happy just to release music that connects with people.
Crazy that's she's currently No. 1 in the album charts in the UK yet hasn't broken 10k in the US. Is that some quirk of different counting methods for streams between the two charts I wonder? In the UK I think for every X amount of streams it counts as a sale in the charts.
She’s No.3 on the Australian alternative iTunes chart and No.17 on the ordinary iTunes chart. We’ll find out about the numbers tomorrow
On the flip side, selling thousands of copies of an album you were initially only writing for yourself is cool! I think touring is where paramore has always reigned and the PFA tour will pull in people who didn’t buy the album as well. Curious to see if this is maybe a grower. I could see Dead Horse climbing the charts with the right promotional push.
I think this will be remembered as more of a critical darling instead of a huge money making album. Critics like it. I think it will make the next Paramore album bigger than ever now that they've won over a crowd that might've written them off before.
I don't believe that's accurate (Not 100%, but pretty positive). As long as the singles / eps are tagged correctly in the backend of Spotify / Apple Music, they can be rolled into the full album and inherit all the streams previously done.
I’m not really sure what numbers I’d have expected but given the rollout of AL I’m not surprised by this at all. Outside of this website I can probably count on one hand the people I know who even knew AL was released, let alone knew PFA existed.
I'm not sure how they calculated the sales for this due to it being three EPs. I've seen some reports only the third EP or the "full" album purchases counted, and therefore not 2/3rds of the album.
Interesting. I noticed when I asked Alexa to play petals for armor, she would only play the first EP. Thought that was odd
Before I say anything, I want to say that I am a huge fan of Hayley and have thoroughly enjoyed the rollout of this album. This is not an indictment of her decision on how to release this album *at all*, just speculation. I wonder if the rollout affected the success of the numbers here. 2 EPs with 10 of the 15 songs were already out there and had been for a long time. I wonder if that affected people’s initial desire to check out the whole thing. I have a couple friends who are huge fans of her and I had texted them about excitement for the album coming out and they were like “Why, what’s there going to be 1 extra song?” So obviously they didn’t realize it was another 5 songs, so they thought they already had the whole album basically. I have no idea if that would have affected the release week numbers, but it did cross my mind this morning. Either way, absolutely love this album. A contender for aoty for me. EDIT: I also just caught up on the last few posts of this thread which I hadn’t seen before posting this and saw Jason’s post about the 3 EP’s as well.
I can't pretend to fully understand how streaming charts and "sales" work, but since inflating new albums with old singles still works as recently as Halsey's Manic, I would think PFA is being counted in full Halsey’s ‘Manic’ Is Already Eligible For A Gold Certification Drake “Sold” 1.2M Copies Of Views Only Thanks To Old “Hotline Bling” Streams
i still think it’s the best chorus she’s ever written I like this album a lot, though I do agree with some other posts made throughout that there’s still some filler that could’ve probably been removed. There’s probably at least one song on each EP I’d get rid of. That said, 12 really great tracks is nothing the be sad about. This was a really great first outing for her as a solo artist
I really want this album on vinyl, but not exactly keen on paying AUD $65 plus shipping for it. Frustrating.
Finally started listening to this over the past week, after having only heard a few songs (didn’t keep up w/ singles or EPs). And, yeah, it’s so very good, obviously. I know, really unique insight.
lol don't forget never having the chance to see bands all your friends have seen like a 20-minute walk from their houses!!
